The first thing I do when making graffiti is look at a prototype photo of the art and then draw it on the model with a pencil.After I am happy with the design I use an opaque paint pen to trace everything.I have tried a few but the best ones I have found are called DecoColor Paint Pens which I found at an art supply store called Plaza Art here in Nashville and I think they have a bunch of locations.I looked for them at Michaels but they did not carry them.Here is a photo of the pens and believe me they are wonderful.I have even started using them to do lines on pavement and even painting a few detail items with them.They have broad, fine, and extra fine tips on them.Enjoy...
Hey Flash, I used a .79 cent cigarette lighter and a file with a point on it.I heated the plastic for about 3 or 4 seconds and then pushed it out with the file as far as I liked but not too far as to have pointed dents but more rounded.

Heu Tbone, It looks like you guys have really spent your time wisely on the tracl! Your engine and every car rolled very smoothly through that turnout. I didn't see a jiggle on any of the cars. You did a goof job on your rolling stocke!

Well guys I have been real busy lately with other projects and I have been doing some Ballast cars for a friend which I will show later tomorrow.I have been wanting to build a mini-module for my picture taking which I was able to do in the past three days.It is nothing special but I started with a 2" piece of blue foam.I added a piece of code 80 Micro-Engineering concrete tie flex track with Arizona Rock and Mineral ballast.I then added Woodland Scenics ground foam and then topped it off with Scenic King's forest ground cover.The trees were then added and they were made with air-conditioner filter cut and added to dowels, painted green and some foam added.Anyways I think it turned out pretty good and will work alot better for my photos then sitting them on my workbench.Enjoy and I will post some of my weathered stuff shortly...
Thanks for all the compliments guys.I decided to give my new mini-module a try tonight and get a photo.Here is a photo of a N&W ballast car I weathered this past weekend for a friend.I think it turned out well but the main thing is I learned some new techniques on weathering so I think I am getting better with more practice.I also think the module is working out good for my picture taking rather than using my workbench. Next I am gonna do a model of a CP gondola and I want to get photos of start to finish of the weathering.
Ok here is my next project I am gonna attempt.It is a CP Gondola and I am gonna try to take photos of the process and progress.Here is the first photo, just a plain jane Athearn Blue Box that I paid $7.00 for. The first step I did was add Kadee #5's and then I masked off the reporting marks with blue painters tape.Next I mixed Polly Scale Roof Brown and about 25% water to thin it down for the airbrush and sprayed the whole model once and then when it dried I sprayed one more coat.This really took the shine off of the model and also gave it a nice dirty fade.Here is the photo... Here is the next stage and almost complete.I added burnt umber to the trucks and then dusted it with light gray powder and also hit the wheels with rust paint and also hit them with gray powder.Next I took burnt umber and stippled it on with a small brush on the inside and also some rust stains on the outside. I then hit it with a rust powder and sprayed the whole thing with dull-coat.Next I took the lighter and punch and heated the plastic and formed it to the dents I wanted.I also took the lighter and lightly went over the entire inside and it gave it a real nice chalky black look.Other than some minor detail work and another spray of dust and dull-coat it is to my liken.Will post the final picture later.Enjoy...
Well here is the final result.After adding some scratches and some more chalk and a final spray of dull-coat I am happy with the final result.I think it came out well and a thousand times better than the original shiny plastic model I started with.Enjoy... My next project is gonna be a CSX boxcar.
