Iowa Interstate has painted this one up in Rock Island colors Would be a great release by Fox Valley Models ...
I'll incur the wrath of UP fans, but IMHO that's a better looking effort than UP's Heritage series SD70Ace's.
I agree. The Rock Island GEVO looks like it is a real livery applied to a new locomotive; the UP heritage units look like someone went nuts with Photoshop. I do like the UP units, but his one is waaaaaay better. Nice job Iowa Interstate. Jamie
:thumbs_up:The return of Rocket Freight! I'm not a Rock Island modeler, but this is a nice paint scheme.
I do like it. It's a sharp scheme. I hope more roads come up with a few "throwback" schemes. GN Big Sky Blue SD70ACe? Pennsy 5 stripe SD70MAC? CA Zephyr/Warbonnet P42s?
That's an awesome paint job. I am not a Rock Island modeler, But I like their railcars and the SW1500's that Athearn did. This would make a great model. The Rock could certainly live on to the present day down in someones basement with a fleet of these.
Maybe kato will do it. They seem to be doing the oddball locomotive's now. I do like that paint scheme, I would probably buy one.
I'm a UP fan and a UP Heritage fan but i really like that Rock Island scheme. Sign me up for one Dave
I have to agree. Very impressive. WSOR shops did the paint? Like Tudor, I'd have to get one myself to go with the 5/6 (no SP) UP Heritage units already in the display case. Now all we need is BNSF/CSX/NS/CP/CN to do retro proto schemes as well!
Nice work IAIS. The photos have been on the Yahoo groups- Loconotes. I checked- One CAN do this with existing decals. Microscale #s 60-956 for the stripes 60-361 for the lettering and shield. Nice, VERY nice!!! Jerry G.
