After procrastinating through the summer I realized I wanted more space for the layout. I now have room for an L shape, 17 feet by 10 or 12 feet, in a shelf depth (say 18".) I like switching in a point-to-point format (no return or reverse loops) and hope to use a train barge as an interchange on the end of one of the "legs." I prefer an urban / industrial setting. Can you recommend (or better yet, send me) a track plan with the above in mind? Think 40' boxcars, 4-axle switchers, mid'50's. Hoping to hear from you. All the best,

Given the number of layouts already put on the internet by doing a google search for "shelf" and "switching" layouts should give you plenty to choose from. Have you tried searching this site or others like this one?

HO scale. Thanks. To make it clear, I want to build a narrow shelf layout - say 18" to 2' deep -- so there wouldn't be room for loops on either end, just a point-to-point. Thanks
