Was a repaint with leftover D&H grey, I think they were trying out a new paint scheme. This is another of the boats they used...
I've seen photos of them with the blue roof. It looks good. Without that feature, the unit modeled sure looks like they forgot to complete that task.
The D&H were a funny bunch, almost like a automotive race team. I think they were into experimentation with the logo and design. Each locomotive was a showpiece in the beginning, towards the end I think they ran out of money for keeping the locomotives cleaned and painted.
This what it will look like folded up in the stored position. This is what you would see, if you could look thru the wall when mounted. Looking at the back side. This is a couple shots of it attached to the wall with the track taped up doing a bit of scenery, locating the buildings where they wanted them. Here we go for the first operation! And the regular 5 person crew (not counting the guy in the Orange jacket) for this job. I hope my Great Nephews and Niece will get many years of enjoyment from this, and also hope it means as much to them someday as it meant for me, to put it together for them. Regards,
Tom, That looks fantastic, you did a great job. I like the design with the center opening. Is that where the power will be? The kids have a great start on a lifelong hobby. Thanks for putting these up. I bet the kids do love it! Dale
Nice work on the folding layout. I really like the pop up hole in the middle. It makes total sense too, since a young person would need to get at the back of the layout to switch cars.

Finally got some warm weather, so, I have started to paint an undecorated C40-8. I am planning on making it Conrail Quality #7491(CSX patched number). From what I have found, only two C40-8s were painted into the CRQ paint before the CSX/NS split. I did a base coat first and I am now in the process of adding small detail parts. I will then paint the pilots and steps black. More to come! JMS
Working on my truck dock for the food plant on my layout, I first was going to try to cut out each door but decided against it (the tools I have aren't cutting it, pun , but really they aren't working to well). I will ether a) cut some styrene to form the doors or b) paint them. I think the styrene will prove to look more quality. I am also building the truck dock pads for the doors, I have started to assemble them but they aren't finished yet. Wiring is my down fall, that is currently why my previous layout is on hold but in a dream world I would like to try to get some working lights on the dock that shows green when its ready to be pulled and red when someone is working in it still, maybe that will happen.
When you are ready, give our DCC & Electronics forum a try. We have seen folks create some nice effects with lights. Surely someone there can give a hand which will get you past any downfalls!
My first attempt at a diorama was a failure (I'll try and fix the rock paint and save it) so I regrouped and decided to make some rocks using Woodland Scenics molds and use their "leopard" spot method of coloring the rocks. The results are better and actually looks something like northern Arizona scenery. I made the trees using a method I learn from a You Tube Channel. This is the first time I put down ballast and I used too much. Also the first time with the grass and ground bushes. I'll keep practicing.
looks like you may have over done with the white glue, what proportion did you use,and how was it applied?
and speaking of what's on the workbench ,or what will BE on the workbench lol. will be receiving a DRGW L 105 on the 10th I just purchased.....will need a bit of TLC. a set of tender steps some straightening of appliances and some paint touch up. yep another articulated to add to my roster!
I used straight white glue for the scrub brush and the grass. Everything else was glued down with Scenic Cement. I glued the greenery down this morning, some of it may not be completely dried. But, I admit it's not professional quality. I'm working on my skills so when I build my layout I'll be able to put something together that looks good and that I'm happy with. I'll keep working on it.
I was looking at the ballasted track which looked sort of whitish in between the rails other than that I think your doing fine,looks better than some others I seen.....keep it up
Could it be just a lighter color ballast sprinkled in, which is giving the misimpression of glue? If by "Scenic Cement" he's referencing what Scenic Express sells, I've used a fair amount of their mixture, never having any side effects.
