Finally finished the cargo booms and masts rigging. Used some commercial parts and brass wire to fashion the hooks and pulleys. Both sets of booms and masts are now mounted and am finally about ready to attach this section of the deck to the hull. Dagone tedious work for these old eyes.

Black objects at mast bases are the cable winches for the booms.

This CN/GTW Alstom SD40-3 is still in active service on the Bala Sub north of Toronto as of this month. I built the model a couple of years ago, but couldn't get up the nerve to do the striped handrails until this afternoon. The macro photos really show how oversized our N scale handrails are (compare to the wire handrails of BNSF ES44C4 6612 next to it), but it looks fine from the usual viewing distance. I really like this unit with it's all Canadian detailing (I believe it began as a CP unit with the front pilot/lift ring/ditchlight arrangement), with the snowshields, single rear light, bell over cab, pneumatic line to the bell and horn. I wired it to flash it's ditchlights which may not be accurate, but this unit did spend most of it's life in the USA, where such practice is more common. Many of it's sister engines are now in the dead line, but this one soldiers on. It's the older, but DCC ready Kato SD40-2 with the chicken-wire grills. It's a very smooth runner. One of my favourite engines.

Boy, can I ever relate to that! There are now several "workbenches" in my house, all in a similar state. Wife is not amused to say the least...

Richard, the locomotives look good as usual. I'm working on some NS Locomotives right now.

I had the day off, so I drove in to Walthers to pick up a few items not available at my LHS. It's always great to hear the words, "everything on your list is in stock." Plus, it happened to be double-punches day for the Walthers discount card. Now I can make some serious progress on my South Boulder Modelworks F-M switcher.

Continuing onward with the lumber carrier vessel which is now named Nogero. Mounted the mast and now have to rig the lines, got all the lifeboats and the captains boat attached to the davits, and hatch covers stacked by the open aft hatch. Chemically blackened the the cargo hooks and installed winch drums at the forward section of the deck at the anchor capstan. Two more motorized boats while be on this deck for running cargo to the many offshore islands they are small 16footers. Tomorrow hope to get the hull portholes glazed and the mast lines rigged. Then it will be time to attach deck to hull and start on deck railings on multiple levels.

Finally got the deck sections attached to the hull, the liferafts painted and attached, radio aerial mast and radar antenna attached, and two boom cradles on the forward deck and in the same place two small cargo ferrying boats. Hull had porthole glazing done and then was dullcoated after which I will rust the lady up some apply railings, and still have some more rigging. The vessel is in keeping with my fleet of small river and intercoastal vessels in this one is 175 feet long with three holds designed for general cargo and some passengers in the coastal, river, and islands along the Pacific Northwest coast. Probably about another week or two of work left. Some minor paint touch up and then I can turn my attentions to the much smaller vessels for the harbor scene.

Continuing progress on the lumber carrier Nogero. Now have all the deck rails in, still having the rails for the upperworks to do. Fabricating a gangway for the vessel and the lumber stacks for the crane loads and holds. I also fabricated my own ventilator funnels for the holds and compartments by using styrene tube and boiling water to shape them then trimming and piecing back together and gluing plus some sanding to get the final shape.

And in setting my era the ship is Canadian flagged and the flag represents the time frame from about 1920 up until about the mid 1950s.
