    Hi
I'm looking for information on modeling a small MOW area. I model the northwest and a have a small space not connected to a yard. I have the vehicles already now I'm interesting on what buildings and tracks are used to store the MOW equipment.

    Thanks

BNSF around Chicago seems to park any MOW equipment / cars on unused spurs. The only building that I know of which is used for MOW is an old warehouse next to the tracks in Cicero (?) - single story with a bunch of truck doors.

I think they also use it to transfer and / or hold loads if a trailer or container needs repair - it is not a transload facility.

Here are a couple links to some pictures.

Along the line: McCloud Servicing Facilities

Scroll down to the bottom pictures...section base for McCloud River Railroad in northeastern California.

Second, this thread contains some photos of mine showing the remnants of some old SP m-o-w stores in Elko, Nevada:

Basically, put a fence around the area (chain link, with gates) and one or two buildings inside the compound. Some will have garages to house vehicles, some will not. Track machines, such as tampers and regulators and cranes and the like, would be parked on sidings or short spurs when not in use. If you're modeling the modern era and a major terminal of some sort, then you'd probably want a couple ballast cars loaded with rock and sections of panel track on flatcars spotted on a yard track where they can be easily grabbed if needed. Lots of barrels, spike kegs, piles of ties, spare rail sections, and the like should be spotted around.

    Hope this helps...
