My layout has been wired for DCC and I used an old DC controller to test for shorts, it runs fine on DC. I have now tried connecting up my new Digitrax and it bleeps for a short instantly. I wondered what can be different as there are no shorts in DC? Any ideas or things to look out for would be appreciated.
Hi, A short is a short no matter if it is DC or DCC. Take a look at the wiring that is being installed for the DCC. Some place there is maybe just one strand that is making a wrong turn and causing the short. Gary
well it could be somthing got moved when you hooked up dcc. also, DCC is alot more sensitive to shorts. DC i can run a car that i dripped some solder on the axel and it runs fine but on DCC that solder will short things out.
Assuming you hooked up the wires to the correct terminals on your DCC unit, it sounds like you have a tiny leak across wires that doesn't seem to bother your DC controller as much. It could be filings in a chain, a tiny filament of braided wire, or it could actually be internal to your DCC unit. Can you do an ohm test at the terminals?
I did indeed find a tiny filament of wire bewteen the rails which may have been bridging the gap in a pc board tie!
