I checked the site of a Japanese guy who makes drop-in decoders for a number of Kato models but nothing for the D51. I've taken mine apart yesterday and there is plenty of room in the tender to hard wire a standard decoder though.
Kato TGV, with add on set. Kato Eurostar, with 2 add on sets. Not sure if these had been posted before or not. The only foreign stuff I have! Not the best, as they're taken while on display shelves.
Well, I run my N700 Series Nozomi Shinkansen on t-track because it's cool seeing the 'white snake' go around. some day it will get a Great Northern Rocky decal and become an Empire builder. I have a TEE train that is modeled after an 1980's train set. bought the engine in 1969. I got the Eurostar because I took the train. TGV cause they are FAST want an ICE3 because I have ridden them. and at shows, to the kids they are all Amtrack. I also have some British freight. and a lot of Great Northern, some UP, and little C&O It is a hobby, enjoy yourself, run trains, woohoo ;>
I've found similar at airshows over here. If it's got one engine with propellor, it's a Spitfire (never a Hurricane, a Tiger Moth or a P51 Mustang). If it's got four engines with propellors, it's a Lancaster (never a C130 Hercules or B17 Fortress). and if it's any sort of jet it's a Harrier. Sad, really! Regards, Pete Davies
I have dreams/delusions of painting a 500 Series silver and making a Zephyr. I'd be interested in see pictures when you can. I guess we'll have to learn them right on both railroading and aviation. (And if it has one engine and a propeller, I'm partial to F4Us, P-47s, and Typhoons.)

I soooo want to pay someone to do up one of my bullet trains in GN EB colors, (Pullman Green and / GN Orange), along with "Empire Builder", coach names and Rocky logos! Oh, my yes! Further down my list would be a "CP" bright red with multi mark logos on all of the cars! Yessss!
This T2 is back out, after a Fleischmann discussion earlier today. It runs so smoothly, it's kinda amazing.
But you would have to change to silver locomotives to take it from the Twin Cities down into Chicago. The green and orange would be striking, though. I was surfing the Hobby Search website and found some interesting items. For the tram guys, there is a Hiroshima Electric Railway Type 5000 `Green Mover` available for reservation. There was also a Wide Tram Model Railway Operation Set II tram track starter set with 5.5" radius curves and a transformer. Then I saw an Elektro-Lokmotive BR 182 : Taurus MRCE `Bosporus Express` (Bosporus-MRCE-Dispolk) that I know nothing about other than it just look wicked. I'd be interested in learning more about this unit. Three pantographs! These seem to be interesting times for non-North American prototypes. BTW, that little Fleischmann looks like it would be loads of fun. I bet it could handle 5.5" radius tram track, too. Andy Tetsu Uma
I wil try it on 8 inch, I don't have smaller. The little thing is amazing. Out of the box, it didn't run well at all. I bought it a while back and chalked it up to size. After discussing steam on another thread, i decided to take a closer look at it? One of the pickups was shorted. Once I fixed that,it creeps so well, I may have to do my first you tube video. I have other steam that runs well, but to me, this one proves that a teeny 4-4-0, like the bmann, should be a breeze. I just pull 2 axle cars with it, but ohhhhh man!
Excellent! I agree about a good 4-4-0. Here's a chance to get some of those small radii Tomix Fine Track curves and use that 0-4-0 on a tight confine switching layout - maybe with street running.:wink3:
I got my Tomix ED75 today. Nice loco! It's bigger than I thought it would be, almost as long as my EF66. I'm going to enjoy this new phase of my hobby. Now, I just need to get my layout up and running...
Fleischmann had announced a new three-car trainset in autumn, which is now available. It is a VT12.5 of Deutsche Bundesbahn built in the 1950's. It was very unusual to announce new models within the year, normally everything is announced before or at the Nuremberg Toy Fair. The new models for 2011 are being announced now. The model has fine detail and is running well. The only problem is the price, Fleischmann has driven their prices quite to or even beyond the limit, especially if you consider that the available income in Germany is going down, not up.
Fleischmann prices are unfortunate. I will say, that the more I m exposed to Fleischmann, the more I am mechanically and visually impressed. But.... Over $200 and even now over $400 for a small steamer is out of my range. For that price, it should make and steam my morning latte!
Fleischmann trains, and Marklin, are about the only ones that aren't cheaper in their country of origin than they are here in Australia. When I visited Germany for the first time in 2008 I thought I would pick up some cheap trains like I do in Japan, but after checking out a few hobby shops in Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart my thoughts were "how do these people afford this stuff?" I have a few German trains but were mostly picked up second hand and still cost as much or more than a similar new Japanese item.
Here is the Wannsee set. If you zoom in with my camera, the loco paint is eh... But after cleaning the picups, it runs great. The Berlin 750 yr car doesn't seem to go, but it is part of the set
When I was over in The Netherlands for three months I found a few train shops and I could not believe the prices on some of these things. I did end up getting a Fleischmann set with a loco and four passenger cars and that was about 400 euros. Luckily my girlfriend paid for half of it as a christmas present. I will agree that the quality of these pieces are very high
I just snapped a couple of shots of my NS passenger train, the one I described in the post above. Enjoy! I need to figure out what I need in the way of wheelsets for these because they dont like my code 55 track at all, I dont even know if its possible to change out the wheels on the loco. If anyone knows that would be really great.
Correct me if I'm wrong but that type of locomotive was used to pull the longest passenger train in the world in 1989. It consisted of locomotive #1607 and 60 of those type (I think) passenger cars. That video is crazy, I bet if i ask my girlfriend (shes from the netherlands) she might remember that. And I think your almost right. From the little bit of research I did the Class 1700 was a slightly updated version of the Class 1600, but other than that they were pretty much the same. They definitely need these locos to pull a lot because if you've seen the train stations there at around 7-8am and 5-6pm you would understand why. Edit, my bad, didnt see you were from the NL of course you would know what Im talking about during morning and evening commutes.
