Has anyone put a decoder in a N-scale Shark? If yes, what decoder did you use? Do you have pictures? Thanks Thom
Digitrax made a decoder for these engines. Sorry, I am away from home, so I can't tell you the model. It's a drop-in replacement for the light board.
It was a DN141E2 decoder. It has been discontinued, so you'll have to search among hobby shops to see if you can find any.
Paul Did you have to modify the frame for the DZ125? Major or minor cutting? Please advise. Thanks Thom
I've got a 4-pack of these to do someday. From looking inside I'm hoping just some creative modifications to the existing light board will do the trick. I have to check clearances but I figure either a Digitrax DZ125 or a TCS Z2 should do the trick.
This will probably answer your questions. Scroll down about 1/3 in the thread for detailed instructions and photos. http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=79381&page=5 The Digitrax DN141E2 has been unavailable for several years, and goes for a premium price when they appear on that well known auction site. Let us know how you make out. I have an ABBA that needs to be converted.
Thanks! I remember reading that thread at some point. I knew that playing with the light board would be possible. It shouldn't be too bad of a conversion.
Ron Bearden has a good step by step over on the TCS site. http://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Content/Installation_Pictures/N_Scale/E-R_Models/RF-16A%20BaldwinShark/N_ER_RF16A_Shark_Z2.pdf Mark
An alternative to using Kapton tape on the frame is to slip some heatshrink tube over the circuit board contact arms, making sure of course that the end of the arms isn't covered.
