I'd suggest getting in touch with the Yreka Western or Grand Canyon railroads, as both operations have identical cars. Grand Canyon did extensive restorations of their cars when they started operations, so they may be a good place to start.

I hope THA finds a protected place to store the cars when they get to the coast.

Grand Canyon seems to use streamlines, not the subs.

Yes, you are correct that Grand Canyon uses streamliners now, but those streamliners are a relatively recent addition to their roster. At startup Grand Canyon purchased a fleet of these "subs" in roughly the same condition as the ones in Portola are now and rebuilt them from the ground up. They were the principle coaches used for a good many years, and GCRY still has a number of them on hand, though they have been largely replaced by the more modern equipment.

I suggest GCRY because they have twenty years worth of experience with this type of car under their belts and may be able to share some of their information and experiences. Worth asking at any rate.

What conditions are you finding for the track itself? All rails still in place? Ties for the most part are...?

It's always exciting to see track retuning to service.

Been awhile since I've been on. Had a new child back in Dec, named after a certain three rail o scale manufacturer.

My latest project is a self propelled mower car for the row. Basic is a riding mower, with rear wheels replaced with speeder wheels. Still some problems to work out.

The passenger cars haven't made it here yet, but should make it here this year once the weather gets good.

Track is over all good for speeder use, a few minor washouts on the Arcata to Eureka side, but nothing a speeder can't handle. In fact we have already run over them, when doing clearing on that side, to support filming for the rails with trails. In order to run an actual train, a good amount of ties will have to be replaced, more so on the Samoa side. Jacoby creek bridge/trestle will have to be fixed. Most of the track is in place, except in a few places in Arcata.

We are working on converting a speeder(bad motor), that has been setting out in the weather a long time, in to a trailer for the A&MR RR speeder. Response was deman was way higher, than supply. This year we will have a day of running between Eureka, and Arcata in August.
