Thanks Mark - that was exactly it, with more abrupt transitions than appropriate at the track junctions.
Some shots of train action With everything now running smoothly, the Morning Daylight, pulled by SP GS-4 #4453, leaves the city on its run, while SP #3303 Heavy Mikado is on the turntable, being prepared for servicing. wider angle
Passenger consists in the yard The Morning Daylight is pulling out, but a UP passenger train, along with the Calif Zephyr, are in the yard, being prepared for their runs. The WP Zephyrette, in foreground, is pulling out of the yard Here, the boys up at the Caboose are checking out the action
I agree, the trestle looks better too! I'm thinking a video of one (or all! ) of those majestic passenger trains crossing that trestle will be a sight to see! The rest of the layout is looking great as well! Keep the updates coming!
Well, I've never done video (the only existing video of the layout is thanks to my sister) posting before. I have real nice camera, with which I've done DVDs, but the only quick videos I've made, with my logitech camera, have become huge real fast. Will need to play (I can try the video mode on my little Nikon CoolPix, see how that looks). Then, I'll need to learn how to post it!
I just use a little point and shoot, Canon PowerShot for all my videos. Works well enough for posting to YouTube or Vimeo. Here is a thread I made for the Video Challenges that might help with the upload process. I dont know how much of it is out of date already, but it should get you set up at the very least.
Not the best, but did it quickly. Will take my time to do better video, with the train going slower, but let me know what you think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzVXBOfQe9g
I think it came out fine as far as quality. But yea...slow that puppy down!! Them passengers are getting whiplash...LOL :tb-biggrin::tb-cool::tb-smile: .
Looks great! That's all there is to it! Then if you want to get really fancy, you can wright up a script and record a voice over.
Thanks for taking the time to shoot and upload the video. This is something I'll have to learn how to do, Heck I'm still learning how to use my camera (Lumix dmc-fz8). There should be a thread about taking good photos and camera settings.
You all must understand, taking whiplash and nausea-inducing video/movies is genetic. My father (may he rest in peace), loved taking movies, and late in life, videos. We still have reels and reels of old 8mm (not super 8), where he is shooting one scene, then pans at breakneck speed 90 degrees! And, when my parents drove their RV to Alaska... 8 VHS tapes of basically the same. I never understood why folks thought the Blair Witch Project was something special - I had grown up watching movies shot that way LOL It is amazing how, in the smaller frame, you really do have to slow things to a crawl, even if it looks good to your eye.
Here's a new video I did this morning. About 5 minutes long. I had worked to find just the right soundtrack to add, but was then reminded about copyrights with You Tube. Oh well, but I highly recommend to anyone here to check out Wynton Marsalis' Big Train. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7vGcMChn9g
I just spent several hours viewing this thread from start to finish. Rick... just an awesome job on JACALAR... really enjoyed the trip thusfar. Keep up the great work and lets see more of the videos. You did a great job on that last video I just watched!
Joe, Thanks! I haven't had opportunity to do much of anything over the past few weeks, but really want to get back out there, and use my new video camera on the layout. I'm feeling totally "withdrawn" from the trains, and not liking it one bit. I'm hoping to be able to get the "other side" of the mountain significantly moving between now and the end of the year.
I'm sure you'll get that other side of the mountain done in no time! The way you've designed that scene, once you start working on it, you wont be able to stop until you finish! It's going to be a top feature of the layout for sure, I cant wait to see it!
