This is my first attempt at building a paper & card-stock model.

The "Small Warehouse" is from scalescenes.com Railscenes collection and is a free download.

It was a bit of a challenge finding the right weight of card -stock for the various parts.

I ended up at the local Staples who was having a sale on back to school subject notebooks, which have stiff backs (about 100-120 lb) and covers that are about 60 lb. The notebooks were on sale for 33 cents each so I bought six of them.

After printing the material, I glued the appropriate pages to the card-stock sheets with 3M spray adhesive, stacked them with a piece of wood on top, added weight (a full paint can :) and let them set overnight. I think this really helped because the next day the pages were flat and stiff.

I use a paper glue stick for most of the assembly and some CA for some of the smaller parts.

If you build one of these follow the instructions very carefully. If your not sure of how something is suppose to go together read that step over a couple of times. This will save you time and reprinting pages. ( I speak from experience)

All in all I think it turned out pretty good. Not bad for paper and card stock!

Good job! I built two of the small goods store structure a couple of years ago and they were a challenge. I didn't use notebook backs as you did but layered several pieces of card stock to make the individual walls and joined them together in the basic shape of the structure then glued the printed surface to it with a thin layer of white glue. I'll download the warehouse an dtake a stab at it when I have the time. Thanks for sharing.

Sure doesn't look like something totally flat. Those cap stones add a nice effect.

I have one of these about 80% completed, using a cereal box instead of cardstock. Mine's not looking nearly as good as yours... :tb-frown:

Looks very good. Top marks for that one. I like the idea of using notebook backs!
British outline modellers use card buildings all the time. I've seen some remarakbly good structures from Scalescenes [not mine ]

    Thanks everyone,

I think this structure will fit in well on my new HO shelf layout which will have a northern New Jersey flavor. Scalescenes also makes a concrete highway overpass which I am going to use at the end of the layout as a scene transition piece.

The second picture is a overpass place holder I put together so I could get a sense of how the finished scene will look. I used extruded foam for the piers and black foam core board for the deck. The beams are leftover plastic window muntin's. ;-)

    Hi Mike,

Sorry but at this time I do not. If I find any I'll pass the link along.

Looks great- I was never able to get the gutters to come out right.

As to material- Go to Staples or Office Max or somesuch and get 8 1/2 x 11" cardstock. It is exactly the right thickness for the walls.

Staples cardstock goes up to 11 x 17. This bigger size is absolutely great for printing larger templates, e.g., ship plans or bridge plans. It takes ink very well for printing building sides.
