Kinda poor lighting, tho noted on reverse...DUANE COAL DOCK--1904. [Terre Haute, Ind.] Note the loco tender hanging partly out the top of the loading ramp.....enough to make the Yardmaster blanch!!!

Did Larry supply the story that goes with the photo? I'd be interested to know what happened there. :tb-confused:

No, he didn't. The only note about it was on the back of the photo. I would say it was obvious that the ramp was underbuilt for the cars. They are on their side beside the collapsed ramp.

Just now recvd a HAPPY BIRTHDAY notice and linked-up with this site , after several mos. That pic of the DUANE COAL DOCK incident rsulted from the yard crew getting too aggressive in shoving CL of coal up the ramp and crashing into mtys already at the top of the ramp. Resultant collapse of the storage area past the dumping tipple, and destruction of same. Luckily the loco & tender didn't crash onto the hoppers. regds LAB

Who needs drop-bottom gondolas when you can just drop the whole car! :)

Look close & you'll see two "DROP-OPENINGS" on the bottom of the old wooden hoppers. LAB
