I finally finished my latest steam locomotive project. I converted an N Scale Bachmann 2-8-0 into a 4-8-0. It represents an M class Norfolk & Western engine like the ones that pulled the mixed train, nick-named the Huckleberry, between Roanoke and Blacksburg, Virginia.
How do you guys know what all these steam engines are used for? I count the roof fans to tell the diesels apart, but the steam engines are a mystery. It sure is a nice looking engine, though. :thumbs_up:
Still practicing my sunlight photos. In some ways it is much easier than taking pictures indoors. My Espee U25BE number 6800 with my version of a low-nose headlight, air hoses, sunshades, etc. A little weathering, too. Sunlight 2 x 4 (inch) board with light scenery. It is about five feet long. BTW, that is my no-rain-in-these-parts grass in the background. I tried to get the greenest areas in the photo, you know? :biggrin9xs:

very nice work. Cant even tell where you stretched the boiler and frame by looking at the pics. Suggestion, paint the frame extension black so you cant see it as easily, up near the last weel on the pony truck.
Two L&A patched GP40's (ex-UP and ex-D&RGW) wait on the Sundown spur for a freight to pass by on the mainline.
New Additions The Heritage Fleet units are great. I need to do a few additions like paint the handrails, add sunshades and touch up the plow connections. I installed TCS K1D4NC decoders and they are wonderful. Great slow speed, whisper quite, and a perfect speed match.

Is is great to see such good modelling, fellas. For my 'entry', a 150 ton wrecker crane is preparing to withdraw from a repair to a 70 ton hopper on the RIP track. It had to lift one end of the loaded hopper so that a broken truck could be swapped out.
new engine This showed up in my mail box today. Fresh out of the box and on the rails. Next stop, work bench for paint touch up and new couplers.

I know you steam guys are teasing me. I can tell that. I think. Anyway, here is another diesel. Not as good as the PCR Prototype Meet SD40-2, but it was a fun project. This is an original Atlas-Kato U25B that was imported by Atlas in 1989. Here is the Spookshow data on the engine. At the original import, the detail was minimal. I detailed it some in the distant past by painting the black Delrin handrails and walkways Espee gray and adding Micro Trains couplers replacing the truck mounted Rapidos. Last week I did some research and added more details. I do like the engine very much. It does not have the traditional brass strips used for electrical pickup; nevertheless, it runs as though it had a scale speed motor before there were scale speed motors. The other Kato engines made around that time ran faster than this model for some reason. Low angle shot using innovative sunlight photography. Front... ...and rear. Home made numberboards, too. I also painted the coupler boxes. This is the first time I have doe that and I do like the appearance better than the black coupler boxes. I sure do like those BLMA air hoses. I don’t think I could ever go back to adding those little wires one at a time. Had a good time operating the H0 trains at the club today, so a very pleasant weekend so far.
I managed to finish two more Kato spartan cab SD70... ...the 3rd one is waiting on the 3rd one in real live to get painted in CN colors. (well, I did paint #1012 already in black)
