    Sandro,

Very impressive work as per usual.

Here is a little shot of an intermodal northbound through the "hole." The red wellcars are some Walthers 48' wells that I altered into a 3-unit CP wellcar set with angled steel around the truck wells, new paint, and handrails.

Got work started on the first of the new modules for the new concept I am working up:

I have learned a lot building my prior modules. This is pink styrofoam in a wood frame so it is very light. The weight of the plywood on wood frame old modules makes them hell to move and set up. I also went back to Peco Code 55 track. It is far tougher for these purposes than any competitor. Finally, I but joined the track at the end to match the Ameriport module's south end by soldering the track to brass screws. I have had a lot of damage to track that was glued down and the butt joints are tough as nails. I also doweled the modules together before assembling the frame so I get a perfect fit where the modules meet.

This is just over 2' long and is angled off of the south point of Ameriport. This is a transition module to the next and final south end module that will be the rail served pier 78 warehouse (there are pictures in older posts of that being built). That warehouse typically is served by boxcars picking up imported coffee beans. I intend to have it fit 8 boxcars- the real one can and does get served by many more.

I do have some space at the front of this module if I want to "back" a spur track down off a switch on the pier 78 module but I may just keep this simple. The road and checkpoint for container trucks in and out of the port will be on this module and I may move the bridge over here as well.

Once that is done I will rebuild the "South street hole" in similar fashion. Due to damage I am down to one usable track on that module that crosses the modules and they are very heavy.

The intermodal yard, "Ameriport" is a very well built set of modules with all tracks butt joined and soldered to brass screws, well sceniced and very usable. Locos and freight roll easily on it and on the double to single track module that comes off the north end. It will serve as the center focus of the new concept that will end any hint of round-round future capability and focus entirely on ops around the port. The pier 78 warehouse will offer ops on the south end for box cars. Right now the north end rolls into the South Street sub that has been well photographed on this thread, although I have found there are few areas where photos can be effectively taken. I plan to continue that concept but rebuild those modules as a described earlier, light, Peco Code 55, butt joined with brass screws, plenty of industries. The northernmost yard, representing Scranton/Binghamton will be removed from the layout concept and stored. This will all be urban switching. So Scranton yard and south street hole modules will be removed or replaced.

Saves a lot of frustration, and any need to mess with protection when the modules are apart. :)

Frame construction is done on my southernmost module that will house Pier 78. I once again used a pink foam base with wood frame and will brass screw butt join the tracks when they are ready to go on. For the time being, no track while I finish the building for Pier 78, which will dictate track placement. One side of the building is nearly ready to be glued on:

This is more or less where this side of the building will be placed. The track runs right up against the water (dockage) here and separates the building from the water. The front of the building will be to the left, the river to the right (rear) of the building. I still must finish the other side and then build the front and the rear but for track placement this was what I needed done. Still need to paint the wood base a tannish concrete color and put some finishing touches for detail on the side of the building as well.

So the first new module has gone from pink foam and 2 tracks to this mess:

Obviously, a placed a switch on the interior track that will serve another small module that will come off the front of the module (boxcars and refrigerated boxes for Girardi Brothers provisions). The dark area is sandpaper I glued down for a road entrance and exit to the container port. The white area is tile mastic I had sitting around that will be sanded and painted to make pavement. The brown area will have gravel and will be where the Franklin Bridge Tower sits. Once dry this will be sanded smooth and than pavement painted. Once thats done the Container truck entrance checkpoint and security office will be installed along with a lot of fence and concrete barrier and this module will be complete.

Been sooooo busy, its been a long time away!

    Actually yes Karl!

Got two of the 3 tracks cut off and taped and painted paved areas as well as put the under color in where the bridge supports will sit in gravel:

Looks real rough in this poor photo but this is the stuff it will all work from. Most important- I got good electrical set up on it and freight moves very smoothly on the tracks. Next comes fence, weathering, gravel, snow, bridge piers and backdrop!
