Hello all. I've been busy doing other stuff for the last few months - work, decorating the house, etc.... but am back now. I fancied doing something a little different recently and got the itch to build a Revel model of a Sopwith Camel biplane in 1/28 scale, that the mother in law had bought me for my birthday last year. Once finished, I had a cunning plan to shoot some arial shots over Sweethome. Most were deleted, as the camera focused on either the wing or the layout, but not both. Here are the best of the photos that did come out I'll have to retake some b/w shots as none of the originals came out. Jon
Still came out real well, I like the photos. My attempts at photographing a model of a Sopwith Camel and my railroad back in 1967 did not come off as well.
One idea for increased depth-of-field would be to get a pinhole cap for your camera body, fix the plane in place and use a tripod and take a long exposure based on a calculation. You'll get better depth-of-field as long as you don't bump anything. Having said that, I really like the ones with the town in focus and the wing a little blurry in the foreground.
A photo of the plane a Revel 1/28 scale kit of a Sopwith Camel, circa 1918 - the rigging took longer than the rest of the kit, including the painting. and finally, our intrepid pilot................ ...I always thought Snoopy should have been flying a Sopwith Pup, not a Sopwith Camel. Jon
.... that same old sweet place Sweethome Chicago!" LOVE these shots. The black and white ones are just the best. Never heard of a Sopwith Pup, but I did get my love of bi planes ( to look at mind you god and me want me to keep my feet on the ground lol)from Snoopy. Thanks for sharing these!
Jon, You always amaze me with all of your creative ideas. I listen to a model railroad podcast that is really good and they were talking about the greatest model railroads. I immediately thought of your railroad, it should be on everyones list. Keep up the good work and thanks for all of the great post and photos that you share with all of us. Cheers, Rick
Cool perspective Love the digital camera age. I still take bad shots...but they don't survive as long as the better shots. Thanks for sharing the idea.
Magee, the Sopwith "Pup" was the smaller, less powerful predecessor of the "Camel" that Snoopy always flew, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sopwith_Camel explains the Pup/Camel relationship. Though both wonderful fighters at their time, many autos could outrun them now ! Jon, you always bring a new perspective to things...thanks for the look ! Bob C.
