I don't want to hijack the thread with ADN stuff. Maybe you already have a thread about your layout. But at this point, unfortunately most of what I have is on the site. Sounds like you're more up to date than I am. I always thought the ADN was an interesting choice, because you can get away with the loop being authentic. Unfortunately the MS live maps hasn't gotten around to doing birds eye shots of that area yet, otherwise you could use that. But if you ever want to have your stuff on the site, we can do that. Plus shots of your layout and stuff. Dave The Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Ry. Archive & Email List Elgin, Joliet Eastern Railway Archive
I don't want to hijack this thread either, Maybe I should start one for the AD&N. I am interested in the original topic and Puddington does very nice work. I am sure that he has a lot to share.
If you're going to photograph your progress, why not... Lots of guys start threads about their layouts.
"I'll be darned if I can see any external differences." Actually its the same exact differences as on the GE 65T and 80T... the frame is thicker on the heavier units, in part to create the additional weight.
Hey, Puddington! What did you use for the window glass on your skytop? Bill Denton mentions on his website using a product that I have been unable to find. (To be fair, Bill says that he thinks it may be discontinued.) I just received my skytop and superdome shells today and I am looking forward to building them! Adam
You're goin to love those Stillman shells Adam. I couldn't find the product that Bill referenced either so I used an old trick... I took clear styrene and washed it with the two stage stained glass paint found at Michaels Craft Stores. You sed a "coating" first and after it drys the colour coat - I mixed a blue and green and washed thin layers on it. Seems to work; bit tricky on the Great Dome but it works.... I also used it on the Krystal Kleer windows as well and it works very well. You can buy this stuff for a few bucks at Michaels. Good luck - look forward to seeing your finished cars !
Bill Denton has four cars that will compliment the skytop observation: You can see his excellent work at: SKYBOTTOM LOUNGE Terry
Bill Denton is getting my next resin car shell order. I am a fan of the one like what you showed with the conductor's window. I believe it is #4813.
Jims website is not there anymore. Does anyone know what happened? Also does anyone know of someone who has one of these shells or built cars they would like to sell? Thanks Rob
