i am just curious if anyone else got this free DVD in the mail. i got it today and have not had the chance to view it yet. they are offering these DVDs for 9.95 each. they are saying they are going to be sending them out every 2-3 months.
Sent mine back. I didn't think that it was all that good. If you keep it and pay the $9.95, I suspect, as with all trial offers, you will be paying more for the subsequent releases. Don't quote me but that has usually been my experience.
Are you talking about the Dream Plan Build vidoes? I've gotten about 20 of them over the last year or so. They are up to volume 18 (I think) and they've also had some special dvd's on peoples layouts. They start you out at $9.95 and then the next one's are $24.95. I've bought a few that were good, but most I send back. Most of the how to's are way to basic for me, but some have great layouts and prototype stuff in them. -Mike
I have them. I really enjoy them. I have been able to pick up a lot of info from them but I agree they need to add some more stuff to them to move up a notch from the basics. I am waiting for the next one. I have also received many of the other dvds and enjoy watching them as well.
I have one of these, I believe it's the first one they sent out. I enjoyed watching it, but wound up frustrated because I can't paint a backdrop as well as the guy in the video. :tb-sad:
Yep. Most seem to like the content, alot of it is recycled Tracks Ahead stuff so has good production values. The consensus does seem to be that most don't like the $24, so it is more of a value thing and not so much that the DVD's are not interesting. I just received the first too, but I don't what I will do yet. I am debating on getting Joe Fugate series first.
Got one.. I read the entire stuff that came with it, and you can opt to do nothing, or send the form in to subscribe, or, send the DVD back in a post paid envelope. If you choose to do nothing, they say just keep it, and the free coin that came with it as a free gift. I choose to do nothing. I watched it, and it wasn't too bad, if you have nothing else to do, or watch. Not much info in it that most of us dont already know tho. The coin that came with it is kinda cool, but, just one of those cheap freebie "collectible" things that everyone does these days. If you subscribe they will send you a thing to keep the coins in, and display them of course, so you end up collecting them. Worthless junk to be honest, but, kinda cool if you are into that sort of thing.
I got one and it wouldn't play in my computer?????????? From what most of you say this is a good thing. Cheers, Jim CCRR
Like I said I have them and don't mind paying for them. There is a lot of good stuff on the others as well. They are good. Also if you don't like one of the DVD's you can send it back. Done that before then realized a month later I would like it so I called them and they sent it back. So alot of it is up to the person receiving them how they want to proceed. There is one all on DCC, another on operations. Some that are on industries and others about the prototype roads and stuff. I like em if any body cares.
well i guess like Kevin said, if you like them keep them and pay for them, if you don't like it, send it back. might just have to see if they are worth it. thanks for all your opinions.
I have a few of them from last year and I like them. I don't really watch the how-to sections, but I love seeing the layouts and hearing from the people who built them.
I got one the first time around. After watching it, I kept asking myself that if they included the content in the magazine, whether they would be bleeding subscribers as fast as they are. Ditto all the "Information Station" pdfs that they are selling separately; all stuff that should be in the magazine.
Thieu, yes they are. I guess if you have a subscription to Model Railroader, then you are eligible to receive the DVD's. -Mike
I have a subscription, but I don't think that they will send these DVD's overseas? Do they send the DVD seperate from the magazine?
i dont have a subscription nor do i even want one to model railroader, but i received this dvd anyway
I have sreval but was vary disappointed that they never had any n scale stuff. I did like some of the how to stuff. I stoped getting it.
