I did a little experimenting today. I took off the AZL coupler and put in a MTL. Now it will pull body mounted coupler boxcar, and its pulling power is a little less then a GP35.
Dom... I thought the same thing. You know... "standard detailing", as Gerd likes to describe it. Alex
Guys, don't get too exited. Really just some grab irons, the SP typical warning light, a decal here and there and some paint. I'm not ta¤¤¤¤¤g the underbody or the front and rear door (too shallow) at this stage, not enough time, happy if I get some orders done...
Here the mild detailed version of mine: SP typical features like Marslight added, grab irons, windscreen wipers, rear mirror, correct font of the number plate and road number, silver couplers (MTL) and cut lever. Some weathering and paint rework on trucks and chassis to achieve more realistic look.
In going back through this thread, I found a couple of members here who were somewhat scepticale that there was no prototype for AZL to base an RDC-2 on. Well, I was looking through one of the Google sites for Canadia Pacific and what did I discover? A CP RDC-2. They really did exist. I'm posting a picure of it here for all the non-believers. Perhaps AZL can use this to manufacture and RDC-2 in the CP Livery. Mind you, I don't llike the paint job on the front of these units. I prefer the same as the RDC-1's. Ken Oh and just for you dining and dancing pleasure there were RDC-4's in CP's fleet as well. There are pictures of them on these websites as well.
And while we are on the subject of RDC's I found some interesting pictures of CN's RDC's. In looking at them, one would have to wonder if some of these weren't regular coaches converted to RDC's Some of these are very strange looking to say the least. Have a gander. I've throw in a few views of the RDC-'s 2-'s and 3's. Ken
I've also found a couple of pictures of CN-RDC-4's. The second photo shows the only RDC-4 still in operation in Canada today, but it has been repeated in Via Rail colours. Cool huh!
While I was on this website, I thought I may as well get some pics of Via Rails RDC's. Perhaps AZL could use these to produce some rather unique RDC's for us Canucks. EH? Ken
As the CP versions are already done, is there any chance to see CN RDC's in the future? Otherwise undecorated RDCs would be a good start
Bruno, I did a quick check and found Z Scale Monster is showing one road number of the CPs still in stock. Here is the link: http://www.zscalemonster.com/azl/62200/ As for the CN, this definitely could happen in the future. AZL is planning additional Canadian roads of the RDCs in future runs. Rob
Thanks Rob. That's good news! On the photos posted in this thread showing the AZL RDC, especially the ones from Gerd, the mechanism/weight seems to take all the space inside the body. Does this means that a small decoder can't be fitted? Would some "surgery" of the weight be required?
Bruno, theres plenty of room for a decoder. In fact, I used the Digitrax Z125 instead of the TC Z2 because its cheaper and I dont need a small decoder.
Hi Folks I has a questuion about the RDC´s For my layout "Flaggstone West Yard, Missouri" http://www.1-220-modellbahn.de/Anlage12.html want I a RDC Budd, but what RR can I use? My favorite RRs are UP, MP and KCS. It is possible to get (if AZL will) a RDC with this flaggs? Otherwise I find the two AMTC No 36 and 34, both are for my point of view also possible. What are you meaning?
The MKT had one RDC2..but I do not know where it ran. These things would not be traveling far. It would be like the HLB going from FFM to Giessen. I think you will have to use your imagination. We should get together and talk about American railroading sometime together, perhaps with Mattias and any others we can find in Hessen. In the end, as I have been told, it is your railroad. Run what makes you happy.
