    Bragging Rights...Excercised...Not Quite

Well...No one likes a bragger AND it's not my intent to brag but share with you the fun I'm having.

To all here on TrainBoard, Friends, Enemies, My Fellow Rail Modelers and the disinterested. ("What, what, what did he say", quoting David Letterman.)

You are invited to take a look at a number of albums I've put together. Featuring: My layout, Various steps of construction. Layouts built for Friends, First Trains Run, Radius Curves and Final Phase of Construction. No this isn't an obituary.

I hold myself out as an amateur, at best... in the world of some of the finest modelers of all time.

I have a heart condition that has slowed me down to a crawl. This layout was built fifteen minutes here and a half hour there. A little at a time. Key Word: Rick's Persistence.

The layout is still in the particle board, plywood, benchwork CENTRAL stage of things. Minor scenery with more to come.

If you are just starting out as a newbie, you might be able to glean some ideas from what I share here.

I'm old school and my construction reflects that. My first model train experience was in HO, as a youngster of 12 years old. Like many of you I started out with a roundy round and tight radius curves. Excellent teaching layout. And, loads of fun for my friends and family.

Today, I want MORE. What's up with that?

Feel free to visit My Albums. Click on the invite below, relax, hee haw if you want (You won't hurt my feelings...TOO MUCH!!) and take what you want from it. Please leave me the layout and equipment. It was a long, tedious, time consuming, exasperating and REWARDING trip to get to this point.

Your comments are welcome....constructive or otherwise.

You will have to put up with my bone head comments. With each photo I've added remarks in hopes, you will find it informative.

Theme: You TOO can build a model railroad.
    If I can, You can!

    Have fun!

Don't forget the tip jar on the way out.
Tip it over, tip on the weather, tip the waitress......! Hahaha...chuckles!

    Mtntrainman,

Hey George, in the neighborhood feel free to stop by and train a spell.

That goes for the rest of you TOO!

Write or call first. I might be out visiting others... layouts.

    UPChayne,

The turntable pictured has been removed and now resides on George's layout. How about that?

I'm planning on installing a Walthers/Cornerstone, indexed turntable. It's here and hollering at me to get her in. Can't wait to see how this turns out.

Two months ago, I had a major health issue. It almost ended my life. There is a question now, as to my future abilities. Limitations that have likely ended my working days, and may hamper any modeling. It will depend upon the level of my recovery.

If there is any way possible, I will not be stopped from working again. And surely will need physical restraint to keep me from model railroading! I am already ahead of what they predicted for progress! And those N trains are just calling to me...

Rick, every time I look at you albums, I see stuff I haven’t seen before. Did you say that you add more? I just don’t know how you do it. That is some collection, how many miles of track do you have or is it just too much to figure?
Oh Man, if you were closer to me, I’d know where I’d be, but then you would probably have a dozen or so “Not at home” signs up. LOL
Very nice and I’m Oh So envious!

And to BoxCab. I’m sorry to hear about your health. I wish there was something I could do and I wish you well.

    Boxcab,

Just a note to say...Get Better! Wishing you, your health back.

Those N scale trains won't stand still and refuse to see you laid up. You'll get back to them soon. Your recovery sounds encouraging.

    Take Care!

    Thanks for the kind words.

    JohnnyB.,

Of course the "Not at Home" signs would be up. But, you'd find me in the train shed.

Miles of trackage. Sheez, I don't rightly know. Scale miles, wouldn't amount to much. Linear footage...??? I had a figure back when... I put in the track. I can't find my notation. I kept a notebook of what and how...down to the color of wire used for a specific block. I will have to dig it out and get back to you.

You are welcome here anytime...never mind the signs. As I said earlier, "That goes for all of you". Just one stipulation, "No Smoking Unless You Are A Steam Engine".

I'm still editing some of my comments. If you didn't like the way I said something the first time...wait fifteen minutes... it might change.

So Johnny, You like my ... every ... so ... often ... Eh? You see...those are breath marks. At those junctures you can stop reading, take a breath and then get started reading again. Well...not really.

    Your turn to...
    Have fun.

Thanks for the invite Rick, I took a tour and was impressed. You have managed to fit an amazing amount of rail into your small shed. And in some insane way, I think it makes sense. I would love to see your layout in the flesh and run some trains with you, it looks like a fun layout. I would like to visit the U.S. but that won't be anytime soon, sadly. However a vertual visit is still fun, thanks for sharing Rick.

    Boxcab and all tuned in,

No apology needed. You didn't hi-jack this thread. I would encourage others to use this opportunity to wish you well.

I tried to be the first to jump in...in hopes others would feel free to do so.

It's good to see a determined group... who want to enjoy and share a great hobby.

    No problem here.

    Get well...OK!

To Bob, Thanks your kind words.

For me the fun part is planning, building and enjoying the results.

    To all tuned in here,

You can't hi-jack a bunch of guys and gals who enjoy talk'in trains. Right?

    Have fun!

    Hey Jim 157,

Where you been? As if I don't know. Yep, I'll be waiting for the train report. Envious and jealous as it makes me.

Take whatever ideas you can glean from my layout. That's my hope and intent. Heck, there's nothing original in what I've done. I learned from some superb model rails. Just imitating.

    TaeOH,

    Thanks!

    You all have fun!

That looks like a lot of fun!! Sitting here struggling with my little oval I can't even begin to fully appreciate how much sweat must have went into what you have created. I wish you many hours of enjoyment operating your empire. Enjoyed your photos and thanks for sharing!
