Over the last year I have tried to join the Atlas Forum three times. Each time I get to the last step where the moderator has to approve and send an e-mail, but I never receive an e-mail. I have even sent e-mails to forum@atlasrr.com, but no one responds to my inquires. Can anyone offer any enlightenment as to why I can’t join the Atlas Forum and why no one answers e-mail sent to forum@atlasrr.com? I have an apple iMac computer with an AOL e-mail account. Could having an AOL account be the problem? I tried registering again this afternoon with a Comcast account, but have not received a confirming e-mail so far. Howard
Why in heaven's sake would you want to join that board when this board is way better??? seriously though, I don't know why it's not letting you, I registered without any problems. Just make sure you have a nice flame retardant suite on or choose your words carefully when you do finally join. -Mike
Ditto. Never mind - it's not worth it. Although I had no problem joining, I was much happier leaving. I doubt if AOL or iMac has anythying to do with your problem. I use AOL (on a Windows XP computer) and I know people with iMac/AOL who have been able to register. As someone said to someone somewhere, "It's not me; it's you." (Lest you misunderstand, "me" means you and "you" means Atlas; I'm not trying to start a flame war between TB members.)
AOL?...my guess is the confirmation email is going in your 'junk mail' folder...may want to check in there for it. AOL has a lower tolerance for spam mail....and most everything even remotely important usually ends up in there. JMO. .
Howard, Mike is correct. Check your AOL "Spam" folder for messages. Your confirmation might be there.
I had the same problem. I finally visited the model railroad blog of a member of the Atlas forum (found it in his signature) and sent him a very nice email asking if he could contact the Atlas moderators and let them know I was trying to join. Within 24 hours I had my confirmation email; for some reason it was never sent previously. However...I rarely post over there unless it is a specific Atlas Q & A. Jamie
Thanks for the suggestions I monitor my AOL spam folder so I know it is not going there. Wish there was some way to contact the Atlas Forum moderator or webmaster. I must be Persona non grata Howard
Jamie, Thanks for the suggestion. I will try and find someone on the Atlas Forum to contact the moderators for me. Howard
Try sending a TrainBoard Private Message to Paul Graf. He is an Atlas employee and one of the Atlas Forum administrators. He only occasionally posts on TB but maybe he will see the message. You can find him here by doing a member search using the Community tab above. Ben
Aptos You are welcome to post here. As you can see, we are pretty laid back here and will even help with giving you information about how to register elsewhere.
Obviously so since even Atlas employees are members of TB. rolleyes: Actually, I enjoy both forums. There are quite a few members who post on both (some redundantly) but a few who are accomplished modelers who don't. I especially enjoyed reading Max Magliaro's account of his seat-of-the-pants cutting of grooves to install traction tires on a LL Berkshire. Gutsy move that actually worked and improved traction better than BFS. I wouldn't want to miss such posts. Ben
Thanks everyone. A train board member sent me a PM and offered to contact the Atlas Forum for me. Hopefully his efforts will allow me to gain access to the dark side. Howard
This is a recurring problem with the Atlas forums. Your best bet is to email Cory to help you get things straightened out: crothlisberger@atlasrr.com Mike
I tried to join about four times a year or so ago and once this year and never got e-mail return either in either junk or other folders. I finally gave up, I read posts there but I am very happy here! :tb-tongueon't know what the issue is with joining that forum. my best, Jan
Paul Graf says he will see what he can do but will need the screen name you used to try to join. If you will post it here, or PM me, I will relay it to Paul. That is, if you have had no success otherwise. Ben
I use Atlas forum. They also have a great wealth of knowledge. I find that asking the same question at both forums gets a lot more aspects or views. Actually it was the Atlas forum that introduced me to Trainboard. I also had problems with registering there about 5 or maybe 6 years ago when my profile and username just vanished, but when I tried to recreate the original username, it said that name was already in use. After I reregistered under a new name I looked for my old username and couldn’t find it. Oh well.
Just wanted to let everyone know I received the following last week in response to my to my March 6th e-mail to the Atlas Forum: Hi, Usually it doesn't take long but we've gotten a lot of spam registrations as of late so it's made it more difficult to weed out the real accounts from the spammers. Your account has been activated and you should be able to post now. I can post now. Thanks everyone for your help.
