Well I'm in Cleveland this week and just got my laptop working after a week of ethernet problems. I have been watching trains here in Cleveland while tiring to fix my computer and I'm amazed to see how many Union Pacific trains are here. Thanks to the Residence inn, I finally got the necessary drivers installed on my computer and my hampered efforts to browse LHS have been been solved.

:tb-sad:I saw a really sad sight while looking for a LHS. I came across what looked like a really nice train sore at one time, but the storm windows were shattered on the ground and it looked like no one has been there in a long time. I looked in the window and among the dust was hundreds of n scale train cars on the shelves ready for sale. I asked the business next door what the story was and they said the mess on the ground had been there for a very long time and nobodies been around for months. I can't help wondering what happened to the owner. Is he sick, in a hospital, or did he pass away? I want to clean up the glass and stuff on outside, but I might get arrested or something.

:tb-rolleyes:On a happier note, I was at my brother-in-laws last week in Pittsburgh and we got to talking about his job at Con-Rail, when I mention that I wanted to visit some LHS while in town. He then said he had a box of n scale stuff packed away in the attic. I just couldn't believe that I had never heard of this before. He decided to gave me all of his n scale stuff which included about 30 n scale structures, some of which I have never seen before and 3 of which I had just bid on and lost at eBay. He also gave me a couple of Con-Rail trains. I have never seen a Con-Rail train in Southern California, but there's going to be some now (at least on my layout). My brother in-law is into O scale and he just bought really nice MTH Lionel passenger train from some guy for $100, but didn't have the controller, so I bought him one. It was the least I could do after he gave me all the N stuff. I can't wait to get home to go through everything and I guess I'm going to have to build a larger layout now

Sounds like your lucky day! I used to see ConRail locomotives in CA in the 80's on the SP and WP. I am quite sure they made it out there after that on the BNSF or UP. :)

Johnny,

Try http://www.depotland.com/ . I got some nice N scale stuff there a few years ago while doing business in Cleveland.

Where was this store located? I grew up in Cleveland, my brother is a model railroader etc and he hasn't mentioned a store like you describe.

I've seen enough shots of Conrail power on the Santa Fe that they must've had a pool agreement.

Well that’s good news. I drive trough Cajon Pass at least once a month and I never anything seen like this. Very Cool! Now I’m going to be looking a little closer. My brother-in law says he sees UP, SP and BNSF in Pittsburgh all the time, so I guess it would not be out of the ordinary to see ConRail in Southern California.
Great Photo! Have you noticed how clean those BNSF engines always look coming over Cajon Pass. They always look brand new compared to Union Pacific which always look dirty.

Rich, the store is in Lorain. I just got back to my hotel room from the place Todd posted above and that guy said he had heard the LHS in Lorain was in foreclosure and in the hands of Lawyers. I had to drive by there today on my way to work and the outside was all cleaned up, so I guess someone’s taking care of it.

I know the shop you're talking about now. From what I remember he had some decent stuff in there but alot of it was old and things were dusty.

Its not a shop I go to when visiting home.

I’ve only been able to find two LHS in the Cleveland area besides the one in Lorain since I got here. I’m flying out of here early tomorrow morning and don’t have time to look for anyplace else. I did like the homey feeling of Depot Train. That was pretty cool walking into a house and then down to the basement for the trains. One thing I know for sure is when I come back I’m bringing my GPS because I had a hard time finding my way around.
Pittsburgh was really disappointing has far LHS goes. I was only able to visit 2 places and they were worst than my LHS at home for N-scale.

Wish I had seen this post earlier. I live in Cleveland. We could have met up.

There are quite a few shops around, but they aren't all real close. I personally visit Al's Trains and Hobby in Bedford (see the link in my signature)

Then you missed Esther's Hobby Shop. A bit hard to find, but the store is about 75% N-Scale.

That was to bad, I was lost for a couple of days without my computer. I never knew I had a bad network driver because I use wireless at home and they only have Ethernet here at the Residence Inn. I need to be out of here by 4AM so I can turn in my rental car and still have time to make my flight.
I came in during a snowstorm and after a week of great weather, I’m leaving at the start of another storm.

Esther's Hobby Shop was on my list and I drove that way with my cousin to find it but after a couple of stops in between, I forgot the address and we couldn’t find it. Every time I’m with my cousin, simple trips become an adventure and we never end up where we were headed. LOL.
I’m planning another trip to Pittsburgh this summer and I’m going to be equipped with a GPS so I will not miss it next time.
