I bought some old Lone Star passenger cars and it looks like they have been repainted. I would like to strip the new paint off and try and save the original paint. Any professional strippers out there?

THE Wife just came in with her morning coffee. She was reading over my shoulder. She said "Ohhhh...Click on that post". With a chuckle I tried to tell her it's not what she thinks it is. "Click on that post" she says again. So although I cant help with your question...I thank you for starting my day with a smile....lol.

maybe you can find someone that will wear a G string, and do it for a fist full of dollar bills.. lol..

Seriously, it may be pretty difficult to remove the paint with leaving the original paint unscaved at all. I would first try a deluted alcohol mixture and keep strenthining it until you see the new pain softening up... Ginger touch I would imagine, but, might be dooable..

    not a professional....

ELO (Easy Lift Off) and a older product, Chameleon would be things to try.

use a q-tip and LIGHT pressure!!

have some distilled water close by in case things fall off easier than expected!!

Seriously, besides the ELO (which can be purchased at your local hobby shop), I've had some success with 91% isopropyl alcohol. That stuff is cheap, and can be found at WalMart in the health & beauty aids section. Should be next to the 70% isopropyl (read the labels so you get the right strength).

RK,I would think alcohol in any strength would damage the underlying paint in some way.Anything you try is gonna have some risk.I'm pretty good at stripping, been doing all kinds of stuff for decades,I use a professional medical ultrasound machine.I only use diluted purple cleaner in it.I'd be willing to take a shot at it,but I can't guarantee it positively won't harm the original paint.

I've had great success doing what EDNSFAN has done. Sometimes 90% alcohol works. Q-tips and be by the sink with warm soap and water to wash off model and stop the stripping process.

90% isopropyl alcohol works great. tons cheaper than elo and chameleon and found at walmart. also not nearly as caustic or harmful fume wise either. chameleon is good but have as good a luck with the 90% just takes a little linger than chameleon.

90% alcohol will work perfectly or not at all - and no smelly residue.

I suggest you try this first.

Let soak for a few days - *if* paint will come off with this, it'll melt away - leaving the plastic unscathed.

    If not, no foul.

I ALWAYS tried 90% first for stripping

The old lone star stuff is metal. Will that be an issue?
