Bump:thumbs_up: New updates for the Portland NScale Convention. Updates for clinics and a list of Vendors and Manufacturers. http://nationalnscaleconvention.com/Portland/nscaleconvention2009.html
This may be a little premature, but I think we have an NTrak Layout !!! After several false starts and setbacks, we have closed the loop! It is not a huge layout by any means, but it's a layout. I will wait to post a picture of the plan until it gets finalized by the groups attending. So given the present situation, trains will be running !!
Wife was in a bad auto accident back in 1997, has been in pain over the years and after a doctor appt. this week is now scheduled for Neck Surgery on the 4th. of June and depending on how it goes will depend on if we go or not. She has had this done 2 previous times, the first time all went good, second time not good at all and different doctor each time and has a very good doctor for the 3rd. upcoming time and will keep all fingers crossed. This is a wait and see type of thing according to her doctor and he knows we want to go.
Allen, Is this a separate layout from the Convention layout? All I know is 1 week till I board Amtrak for Portland!!!
There are combined and stand along layouts for the convention: http://nationalnscaleconvention.com/Portland/nscaleconvention2009.html N Scale NTrak modular Combined layout Tualatin Valley 4dNtrak A & P Engineers Mt.Rainer N Scale Club layouts Tualatin Valley Spokane International United Northwest One-Track modules Z ScaleZ-Bend Track modular layout Standalone table-top layouts
Having seen most of the layouts at one time or another I can say they are real nice and should fit together great. As for the two Z scale layouts that will be there they are some of the best around and a must see. rich
Is there a buy-sell-trade session? I have some equipment I might bring if I could trade it off. Is this when the "Room Sales" event happens?
Hemi, Room sales are always cool! I'm sure there going to be a bunch. I'm bringing out stuff for the auction. I'll be flying out of Nwk,NJ on Monday morning with a 12:30pm local time arrival. This will be my 1st vacation in over 12 years. My parents are giving this to me as part of my birthday present. I planned on doing a lot of the extra stuff, but due to a painful hip that is scheduled to be replaced in Dec.,I'm only doing 2 things that don't require much walking. I'll be easy to spot if I'm wearing shorts. I have NY Giant helmets on my leg braces. Greg, are you ready for me buddy? How about Otto's for lunch one day. I saw it on the Food Network's Triple D. Looking forward to meeting everyone out there. Cuz, I'll see you Tuesday!:tb-biggrin::tb-tongue::w20z6q:
Well, there is the Swap-a-rama where you can get a table. I believe you have to pay a fee for for table space but the Room Sales are free. It is a time honored tradition where you just list your room number on a bulletin board and spread your wares out on your bed on given evenings. Then prop your door open and the attendees start dropping in. I usually hit the bulletin board and write down all the room numbers before making the rounds. There are also usually a silent auction and a live auction if you choose to go those routes.
Hi All, June 13th, 09. 13:45 Hrs.. M.D.T. Going to the Convention Would B Great, I Don't Get Paid Vacations and Financing Isn't Available. What Would I Like to See. LOTS of Pictures in Both the the N Scale Magazines. the Maunufacures Making N Scale Announcements at an N Scale Convention NOT the National Train Show, and Layouts That Actually Run for a Change, Plus an Individual Having the RIGHT to Run a Small Train on the Modular Layouts Without the Hostile AttitudesThat Happened in St Loius Last Year. Things to Consider for an N Scale Convention.
I don't have a table, but I'll take note of Russ' idea, and write down room numbers. I'm bringing some trade fodder now... As for chow, I plan on visiting a few places I saw on travel Channel's Man V Food--Voodoo Donut, Steppingstone Cafe, and a few others. I hear the local farmer's markets are great, and plenty of fresh produce. Oh, I'll be the one with a Rio Grande hat, and a son with a Hemi hat.... I'll be there with a stroller, my youngest, and my wife, too. She'll likely be easy to spot, saying "No!" to every "Honey, can we get (insert model railroad item here)?" question...
One of the largest Saturday Markets is the one in Portland Downtown and not far from the beautiful Union Station. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Station_(Portland) Portland Saturday Market http://www.portlandsaturdaymarket.com/ The closest to the Convention venue is the one in Vancouver Wa just across the river. And, it is not far from the Amtrack station, one of the best places to railfan around. http://www.vancouverfarmersmarket.com/ Check this site as well for things to do and where to eat... http://www.livepdx.com/index.html Hope to see many of you there. Come down to the Model Contest room and say hi.
Hey Mike, We're ready! I'll be down Thursday mourning when Jim and I will be measuring out the layout room, then setup layouts until the wee hours. I will have my Grandson on Friday as Assistant Trainmaster, so we might have to try for dinner or Lunch on Sat. I can assure everyone that the layouts will be running! Both DC and DCC. We should have open track time, as operators with the clubs attending will be limited. So there should be track time open. Anyone that might want to run a train can get with me and I can steer you in the right direction. I know Allen with the UNW NTrak might need some relief operators, too. I'll be wearing a Mt. Rainier N-Scale hat and shirt and will have a big smile on my face. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone that stops by to say hello. I want to at least reflect the good hospitality and friendliness that was the example set last year at Louisville. So come on up to our little corner of the N-Scale world and enjoy! The weather reports look good for the week!!
One of the best places to eat is Sailor's Country Kitchen on 105th. and Stark Street they have the best stakes in Portland, they are so tender that you only get a butter knife to cut them with. They are worth the short drive South on I-205 to the Stark Street Exit and go East on Washington to 105th and turn left go 1 short block and you are there on Stark Street at the Country Kitchen.
