I guess they are about to get an education in the market value of Atlas RTR N scale rolling stock vs. the prices they listed.
The dimensions appear to be of the box, not the car. A five inch long beer can tank car would be more like O Scale than N. Meanwhile... a new general nomination to my "ignore list"... high prices for what's offered, meh shipping rates, and constantly cycled one day listings. Do we understand over there that if it didn't sell today, it probably won't sell tomorrow either? So what we're left with is a lot of "Excess Baggage"...
I asked the seller if the beer can tank car included any beer. I told him at least one two-four would be the least he could do...
I HAVE THE MOST HUMOROUS EBAY STORY ON THIS THREAD......BAR NONE I am starting to date this wonderful woman who completely vetted me to ensure my character is clean. She told me that a photo of me from 1987 is on sale on ebay for $32.88 plus $3.50 shipping. It is not a flattering photo by any means, and was taken by some major newspaper in the area, accompanying my announcement of leaving the position described in the ad. It is also my phoniest smile I could conjure up because it was to conceal my utter contempt with my then boss and I had already secured a better job, a new life, a new home 50 miles away and a fiancee waiting in the wings. My only worry was how I was going to move my trains. My contempt for my employer, the city manager was so complete, that I bagged my farewell dinner the day after this photo was taken. I also lied about my next employer listed as a trucking firm. I wanted no contact with any of my colleagues, except one. When I assumed the State of Florida job immediately after, all of my colleagues contacted me to see if I could get them a position, including the assistant city manager. All of course were politely turned down. This listing from 1987 is a complete mystery to me. I searched 2 pages and I am the only "one of my kind" listed for sale. Other photos which mysteriously sell for less include Charlie Sheen, Pres. Nixon, Julia Child and Elizabeth Taylor. Needless to say at my regular diner I was thoroughly one revolting person this morning. I told them all I was kidding. This is such a laugh. If you want to see this total farce, just do a search on my name, less my handle on ebay. PS I am older, wrinklier, grayer, and yes, even thinner, and my teeth are white and clean. Man,that's almost creepy..[The fact that they have your pic for sale,not you,LOL!!] They seem to be selling a lot of photos of unknown people for big bucks..VERY strange,since you can get all kinds of stuff like that free on the net..I'd tell them to take it off like,NOW..
I am surprised what people buy sometimes on "that site," including something I had the nerve to list a few days ago. And it sold. Lot of 5 Aurora “Made in Mexico” 50’ N scale bulkhead flatcars (probably late 1960s-early 70s?) No trucks or couplers on any of these. Manufactured with large kingpin holes in bolsters that do not fit any trucks or truck pins I know, I have damaged some trying to cut down or fit with kingpin rings. What possible use or interest could anyone have in this batch of cars? 1. As historical artifacts of early crude N scale 2. To model a wrecked train 3. To cut off the bulkhead ends to kitbash other flatcars into pulpwood or bulkhead cars 4. To use the decks as makeshift one-lane bridges on back roads (There is a prototype for this sort of thing) 5. Barely possible but unlikely: to rehabilitate these cars into runable usable pulpwood or bulkhead flatcars Must see to disbelieve this lot! Guaranteed to be in no better condition than as described and shown here.
Kenneth - I have learned in the past few months to not throw ANYTHING away. Save it for eBay. I have sold old pizza-cutter HO wheels and stuff that I commonly have tossed in the trash for decent money. I'm not conning anyone, the stuff is offered with a ton of pictures and good descriptions. Currently I'm saving up old horn-hook couplers for a sale. Thing of it is, we're looking at it through OUR eyes, but there is a demand out there for..."junk".
"One mans junk is another mans treasure." That being said...its not WHAT someone is selling...its the price they list it at. If someone lists 5 old junk boxcars for 800.00 vs listing 5 old junk boxcars at a starting price of .99 and someone out there bids it up to 800.00...well...thats 2 different animals ;-)
I just bought a box of junk N Scale at a Hobby shop I just found inside a flea market.WAY too cheap to pass up,especially since there were 5 locomotives in there,two Bachman Docksides and a nice Bachman 0-6-0,the three of them needed parts I had,two decent diesels,and fifteen or so older cars,a caboose or two,whole box for 20 bucks.There was an entire set of those old Aurora cars,plus the hack and the locomotive,plus extra cars.[On top of the stuff I already mentioned..].I was thrilled to get them,simply because they're so old,just to add to my collection..Now,to decide wether I should try to find a few wheelsets for the original trucks,or put old Atlas trucks on them..
I'd really like to throw a gigantic dictionary at all of the eBay morons who spell intermodal "intermodel". It makes my daily search for Intermodel brass such an exercise in tedium... Whew! I feel so much better! Cheers, -Mark
