Next time up your shipping....as this seller has! LOL http://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Hallmar...918264?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item231fa76078
That item is being sold from Germany though. Based on what it costs for us to send less heavy things from the USA to relatives in Spain, I'm not sure $45 shipping is that far out of line for a brass engine. There used to be a shipping method called an "M Bag" that was reasonable... so of course it's no longer available as an option. Shipping to and from Canada seems to have gone up quite a bit also. I would imagine there are fewer buyers interested in cross-border transactions now, except in "gotta have" situations.
Well the cranky old geezer never replied to my e-mail so I'm off to leave some feedback. As a seller, you can no longer leave negative feedback, which is BS in my never so humble opinion, however I'll still put something in the comments section on how public education was a failure for him as he did not read before bidding. Once my storage unit is empty, I think I'll resign from e-Bay. All it is anymore is a bunch of whiners who want items for next to free, sent with free shipping and sent yesterday.
Jim...........I couldn't agree more!!! The only problem with trying to close your account nowadays, they make you wait 30 days for some stupid reason, even IF your fees and such are all paid up - I tried (????)
I think the old feedback system where sellers would invariably respond with retaliatory negative feedback whenever a buyer gave them legitimate (and deserved) negative feedback was even worse than the current system. Unfortunately, neither system is perfect. Just FYI, leaving "positive" feedback with negative text is against eBay's rules. eBay will remove it if the buyer complains. Cheers, -Mark
The fact that eBay favors the buyers by not allowing sellers to leave feedback is BS, now by removing the bad comment if the buyer cries is pure HS! They are slapping the hands that feed them. Hmmm, No sellers = No buyers, No buyers= No eBay The whole feedback thing seems absolutely dumb and pointless now that it's so one-sided. I wish there was a better outlet for auctions, but then again how would that site [if there was one that would start up] wind up?
I know Trainboard has an area to sell/buy. Are there other auction or outlets for sellers that have a decent track record?
After seeing your post I did a snoop on google and found this: http://tiny.cc/y1kwhw Might be worth the time to look into one or a couple of these. Allen...
So, there is a lot more out there than Ebay. Now, if we can get Trainboard a few shekels for commission on one of these other sites, I'd sign on the dotted line.
Maybe so, but it is one rule they don't really enforce. Also there is no rule that says I have to leave any feedback which I have done in the past. Another thing that comes in handy is blocking certain individuals from bidding on my items again and you can bet this moron will never get a bid or a chance to b!tch about one of my items again.
That's how I deal with it, and it definitely helps to lower my stress levels. If somebody raises a stink (no matter how unreasonable), I just give them their money back, tell them to keep the item in question, and then block them from bidding on any more of my auctions. In fact, in a couple of instances I've actually black-balled bidders preemptively based on the moronic questions they were asking. I mean, sometimes you can just tell somebody is going to be a problem Cheers, -Mark
Well, for instance, when you go to ebay.com and search "N-scale" you get 23,000+ listings; if you go to ebid.com you find a total of 1400 listings for n-scale. This is why people go to ebay to buy -- the selection is broader
This is true, but....the more people who go there, then in time, the selection will become broader. I bet you a nickle eBay didn't have as broad of a base as they have now when they started out? Allen...
Wow. Brings back memories! You are quite correct. And for all concerned, things were a lot simpler back then, too!
Due to E Bay requirements, I have cut down on my international shipping. I can ship cars and engines to Canada and Europe by First Class Mail for a reasonable charge. However, there is no proof of delivery and the buyer can say they never got the package. They complain to E Bay and E Bay will reverse their payment. In order to prove they got the package, I have to ship Priority Mail. Unless it is a Small Flat Rate Box, it gets expensive. Then the buyer dings my DSR for high shipping cost. E Bay makes it hard to be a seller. I sure don't sell as much as I used to.
To power sellers, I'm curious: Do you have to have a "store" to make it on Ebay? Selling the occasional item seems self-defeating.
Seems to be the way "Evil-Bay" has it planned.......they are cutting the throats of the hobbyists and small fry in favor of the "Power-Sellers" & Stores. It has been my thinking that they are trying to run the "little guy" off, so it's all Stores.
Ebid.com doesn't even seem to be a real website right now, for those who mentioned it... I did notice something that made my hat do a spin. This is the highest price I think I've seen for a single car, and it is absolutely incomprehensible for what is being offered. Old Aurora Postage Stamp cars aren't exactly that rare or expensive. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aurora-Post...151850?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item4aba3d2f2a
