Do not know the origin of the wood SP&S plow X-26. I appears to be made from 2 cabooses with a steel underframe. The cupolas would suggest a Great Northern origin...but, I'm only guessing. I found the photo in the Hobbs SP&S caboose book. Photo was dark, so I had to do alot of guessing, especially on one side. This is made from 2 Bachman cabooses using a Lima/Roco underframe. The plow is scratched....But, it a a very different piece of equipment.........
Marty, You're kitbash/scratch-built approach is probably very much analogous to how the original was built. Something this odd, I am guessing, was probably shop-built by SP&S or even earlier by one of the parent roads and then transferred to the SP&S. Nice work! Adam
Very nice kitbash, Marty. If Paul Hobbs said it existed, then it mostly did. Paul did a very lengthy dig into the SP&S files to come up with his caboose book (as he did with the rolling stock book) for the SP&S. The SP&S obtained most of its rolling stock in hand-me-downs from its owners. Oddball cars, such as the snow plow was mostly likely made in the SP&S shops.
......... and they said you couldn't possibly get any weirder than you normally are.... guess they were wrong Marty ! That's a nifty beastie - nice work indeed.
