Not sure if its next, but I thought it was pretty well determined (strong rumour and informally confirmed) the next "western" or "not eastern" set will be the El Capitan.
May be economy-related, but given the lukewarm reception the Broadway has received, you are probably right. Methinks there is way more interest in Western roads.
With no proof whatsoever; I concur that the strong rumour coming out of fall shows was 2009 being the ATSF El Capitan and 2010 "Going North" - which has been interpreted to mean Canada and one of the iconic trains of either CPR or CNR...... Having no comment on the El Capitan, I look at the "Going North" idea and see an interesting issue..... Given the fact that they have done steam powered; electric powered and diesel-electric powered cosnists; there is no "hard and fast" rule about power so I offer you the following review of both major Canadian named trains and their power..... Canadian National: 1930's - 1955: The Continental (LW & HW cars) 4-8-4 Northern's, 2-10-2 Santa Fe helpers, 2-8-2 Mikado's and F3's and F7's.... 1955 - 1977: The Super Continental (Predominantly LW cars ) Began with F3 units (but did have 4-8-4's and 2-10-2's occasionally until 1959-60) after that F7's F9's, Alco/MLW F style units Canadian Pacific: 1930's - 1960 The Dominion (HW and some LW cars) 4-6-4 Royal Hudsons, 4-4-4 Jubilees (eatsern and prarrie), 4-6-2 Pacific's and FP7's 1955 - 1977 The Canadian (Budd corrugated LW) FP7A's F7B's/ FP9A's F9B's VIA Rail continues to run the "Canadian" with the original CPR equipment (and other like equipment) until today. I have no idea what Kato might do; but a few observations are as follows: 1. A Kato 4-6-4 "Royal Hudson" would have universal appeal; both in North America and abroad. The Royals run today, have powered BCR trains for 30 plus years and run in Canada and at Steamtown in 2009. The 4-6-4 base would be a popular development. 2. The Canadian is being done by Rapido trains in HO in 2010.....will Jason follow it up in N scale ? 3. PWRS has announced the British Columbia "Royal Hudson" excusrion train for 2010 as an exclusive, using Rapido coaches.... no power annouced.... 4. A Kato Canadian National 4-8-4 would be a natural after the GS 4... lower development costs. and a good Northern would be popular.......... 5. Kato hasn't done Heavyweight coaches.......... 6. Kato did a foobie "Canadian" in 2003 and a foobie "VIA Rail" smoothside consist in the 90's with their generic equipment What all this means - I haven't a clue but it's interesting to ponder the possibilities........what's your take ?
I have a funny feeling that if Kato does the 20th Century Limited it might be E8's and the light weights they came out with before. Might have some detail differences installed, but my gut feeling is that they probably wouldn't come out with another steamer for quite awhile. Rob
it will be 'the canadian'. of course. simply because i relettered two zephyr sets into via rail colors. usually a manufacturer brings out these models after i had all the hard work.
Who? You would think that with all the secrecy this is a matter of national security. It's only model trains, guys. Ben
Because it was the most beautiful train in the world, Kato has decided to do the Lehigh Valley's "Black Diamond". Pre-orders are already at "1" without an official announcement My source was Jack Daniels.
1. B&O Capitol Limited w/ Streamlined P-27 Pacific 2. Chessie Steam Special w/ C&O 614 (they already have the drive complete) 3. N&W Powhattan Arrow w/ 4. 20th Century Limited w/ J3a Dreyfuss Hudson
DRGW "Prospector" , Needs to be done in the Black and Gold Cars with FT power as shown in "Rail Annual #9. All the cars were rebuilt in house. Very classic train!!!!
More likely the 1950's version so they can do yet another run of warbonnet F7's. If they do the El Cap I'll just be getting the cars to use with my Super Chief cars to make up trains that didn't just run in 1953 on the transcon mainline as its now called, like the Texas Chief and some of the connecting trains that ran in Texas. And Kato, how about some two, or even four, packs of baggage cars?
