I was finally able to get down to Old Town Sacramento and photograph the latest addition to the Sacramento Southern train. She currently still wears her US Army paint. Unknown if she'll be repainted. My Sac Southern roster on Foothill Rails will be updated shortly.
Plans are to repaint the 2008 (into the Sac Southern scheme) sometime in the future. It's unknown "at this time" as to when that may actually happen as just about all efforts at the CSRM have been focused on getting and preserving the old SP shop buildings. Future plans also call for restoring the MU capability to both the 2008 and the 2030. The 2008 may not have far to go to restore MU capability as all of the "plumbing" (air hoses, etc.) is still intact...The 2030 had most of it's "plumbing" removed (it's still there, but "stubbed/capped off" in various locations)...Unknown (at least to me) is what the state is of the electrical MU connections... Both the 2008 and the 2030 are ex-US Army SW8s. The 2008 came from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in mid 2005 while the 2030 came from the Hawthorne Ammunition Depot in early 1995. Both units are identical in terms of their controls (older style EMD "barrel type" notched throttle control stand, 6SL brake stand, "push/pull" switches) and configuration. There are a couple of minor difference between the two units...The 2008 has side wall heaters (with the control/breaker switches being mounted on the left side, outside of the electrical cabinet) in addition to the EMD standard heater (in front of the engineer) and somewhat non-standard angle cocks (on both ends, that is "closed" when the valve handle is in line with the brake pipe which causes "problems" from time to time when someone isn't aware of that setup). Both units "ride" on standard EMD friction bearing switcher trucks.
Thanks for the extra info!!! Can't wait to see em both together in Sac Southern paint, its pretty sharp.
