Well, last week I made my first purchase after being out of Model RailRoading for 20 years. I picked up an athearn loco, with 10 coal cars and a caboose and some kato unitrack. Anyway, I setup a little track and then decided that to get the full effect I needed another DCC loco to play with.. so I went back today and Picked up another athearn Loco and a couple of hoppers and some dump beds to mess with. They didn't have a digitrax decoder for the new loco, so I bought a TCS universal decoder, got it solderd in and programmed, and it seems to be working fine. I've already out grown my kitchen table, in less tan 5 days. hahah.. I need to get my spare room cleaned out and get my layout started. Anyway, here's a couple pics... (I need to pick up some passanger cars to go with the FP45, but my LHS didn't have any that I liked)
Maniac on the loose! ;-) I think credit cards only allow 3 trips to an LHS in a week...better make the next one count! hehe
haha.. yeah, i think the next purchase will be a boat.... well in this case a "trainload" of UniTrack. Yeah, I don't have any of the supplies to start weathering yet, I pretty much just picked this stuff up to make sure I was going to be happy with N Scale and to test the waters again. Well I think I've decided that I'm in for the long haul, and now it's time to get some stuff planned out. Oh yeah, it's lots of fun. This DCC stuff is going to be really cool!
My Dr says he has a cure for the fever, he surgicly removes your wallet, and uses your money to buy himself trains! I called him a name I wont repeat here!:tb-biggrin:
Yes, those Athearn passenger locomotives sure are nice. Also, they have the new McHenry couplers installed. I just love the warbonnet Santa Fe engine, I have to get one for my passenger trains collection. That engine would look real nice pulling four of the new Bachmann full-dome Santa Fe passenger cars. They now come with knuckle couplers installed and a much nicer paintjob then before.
Here's a link to my favorite supplier back in the states. Passenger Cars: woo woo woo - Model Trains and Model Railroad Accessories I could only find the Amtrak full dome cars: woo woo woo - Bachmann N 74355 85' Full Dome Passenger Car, Amtrak Phase I The Kato Super Chief cars are nice as well: woo woo woo - KATO N 1066001 PASS SET, SF/SUPER CHIEF #A(4) Have fun, but protect Mr. Credit Card because it can get worn out pretty quick. Brian
The best Santa Fe passenger cars available are the Kato Super Chief cars, I believe they've just re-released a starter set. The Bachmann domes are also Santa Fe prototype and are not bad, but not Kato quality either. If you want to be prototypical both varieties of dome, the Super Chief Pleasure Dome and the Bachmann full dome, would have run just one to a train on the Santa Fe. Domes were a rather rare piece of equipment as they were relatively expensive to build and maintain, and apart from trains such as the California Zephyr and modern day tourist trains it would have been uncommon to see several together. But whatever you do have fun.
at least you have track and cars to play with!!!! i have 8 locos and nothing elserolleyes: one more in the mail today
Hmmm, lets see -- kitchen table filled in 5 days? Your spare bedroom will be full of layout and trains by the end of January!
Seems like you have a temperature. According to my thermometer, it reads : "ALL ABOARD!" I hope you get the credit card bills and not the wife!
When was the last time you watched a real train go by and it only had one engine? Better go back to the LHS and double the number of engines you have!!!
haha, no joke. I watched a special on the history channel today, they were talking about the Canadian Pacific which carries 100 cars, 2 engines in the front and one in the middle. I thought it was pretty cool how they built a loop through the great divide to allow the track to have a lower grade, I think they said it used to be like 4% or more before the modification. It was pretty cool to see the train loop back on itself, you could see the front part and the back part of the train in the same area, it looked like two seperate trains.. Pretty cool.
Glenn Poole in my area (Montreal, Quebec) CP runs empty freights with a single loco ... mostly container cars, or mixed with Hoppers and/or boxcars. They run westerly or easterly. I encounter them at least 4 times a week when I am going to or leaving from work. Cheers! Adam
New Athearn Locos Nice to hear that your pleased with your recent purchases of Athearn Locos. I was wondering what the thoughts would be once released. Thanks for sharing
