    Hi
I am modelling the early to mid 1900's and have quite a few structures to build.

What is your favorite manufacturer / source of commercially made N scale shingles or cedar shakes that look realistic?

Or do you make your own, and how?

    Show me your examples !!

    thanks in advance

    Chris

Paper Creek Models makes great Shaker shingles that I've used on some of the buildings of the JJJ&E.

    Hi

This may not be of any help, but here goes.

I use strips (scale 3 to 4 feet wide) of toilet paper. I'll paint the roof and then while it is still wet I'll press the tp into the paint by using my paint brush. After it has dried a few minutes I go back over the tp with more paint. This looks more like rolled roofing than shingles. Cutting narrower strips and cutting notches into them and then overlapping the strips, they may then look more like shingles.

Lately I have been using a styrene sheet product from Plastruct for shingle. It is an HO product but still looks good for N. I used it on this house.
