I think I have a scenery spot that needs a stone viaduct. I have one of the Atlas plastic version, and it's ok, height is good. I'd need a second and maybe a third to get the length I want. The Atlas would need some paint work to make it look really good.

I decided to look for other options and some quick searches didn't turn up anything. I thought ME or someone made something similar to the Altas one, but perhaps not.

Any suggestions? Single track, ~1.5-1.75" high, I'm thinking about 13-14" long total.

Leo,

Have you tried Cooch Enterprises? I know that they had some stone items in the past like tunnel portals and such.

You might have to german on this one. I know Faller and Kibri make straight stone viaducts (kibri is the cheaper) Hope this helps.

Leo, Hi ! I'm not personally conversant with these products, but have seen them used to great effect. You might want to check out this site for your stonework...

Don't know if they specifically scale their stuff, but might be useful to you. I am not connected in any way with this co. or it's owner...just impressed. Happy modeling !

Leo-

In the Walther's 2008 N scale catalogue, there are several pages of what you need. Kibri, Faller and I believe one more have all manner of viaducts, from brick to stone to random stone.

Possibility for a Viaduct

If you go to Sunshine Model Railway Club - Chuffington and view the bridge. Then you could go to http://www.xdford.digitalzones.com/hintsandtips.htm and go to the hint related to the viaduct nut I will reprint it here...

Hints & Tips No.56 – A Cheap and Simple (and very effective) Viaduct
By Tom Welsh (Sunshine MRC, Melbourne Australia)
In building the exhibition layout “Chuffington” we needed a rather large viaduct of unusual ess shape. The track is elevated at that point and the shape would not be covered by a commercial offering. We made viaduct sides from some 3mm MDF board and bent it to the shape of the trackwork.
While we probably could have just painted the MDF, we elected to get some very coarse spent belt sander belts and glued them to the outer surfaces. We then cut the belt so that the arches were open and treated the insides of the arches the same way.
A coat of an earth tone paint and the origins of the material would not be known. This technique could be applied to any size bridge. You can see a picture of the bridge at Sunshine Model Railway Club - Chuffington .
(A Note From Trevor – The bridge has raised a few eyebrows even on the limited time that I have minded Chuffington for Tom at exhibitions. I had one gentleman say how expensive Model Railways were and I pointed the bridge out to him. “How much did that cost?” so when the process was explained, he was quite incredulous at what he was seeing! Well Done Tom)

I'll second the recommendation to try to scratchbuilt it. I built these bridge supports out of a piece of 1x2 pine, sanded down on a belt sander to shape, then scribed the gaps between the stones with a ball point pen. Painted it a mix of concrete/earth/grime, then weathered w/ a few coats of thinned floquil in various 'dirty' shades. I would think you could start w/ a pine 2x4, drill the arches out or cut with a jigsaw, then scribe the mortar lines like I did and have a pretty good looking and inexpensive viaduct. And probably less work than trying to modify a prebuilt kit.
