I had heard they also are not going to be running the FA's either. So its F40PH from now on. It has lost all interest for me...even the FP's of the Verde RR have a lot of appeal.
My employer just raffled off a pair of tickets for GCR this week and the winner was not happy when I told him no more steam engines.
Argg, I hadn't heard that. At least the FA's were fun old beasts to watch. I did see a recent picture of one of them repainted into their new scheme, so now I'm puzzled why they would paint it? At least one of the power cars has the new scheme too, but maybe they recently ditched that whole plan.
I heard it was due to parts costs etc....I could have been wrong but they could be planning to use them as display like some of the steam power. I haven't seen the new paint, I will have to search for it. You could be right looking at the website they show the FA's with silver paint and while all signs of steam power are gone they have a heading that states they use 1950's diesels on every train every day. Maybe they came to there senses.
Too bad that they will not run steam again, we rode the GCRR in March of 2005 and they were using only using the steam power in the summer months back then so we only got to see the FA's in use.
All I can say is, I hope they bring the steam back again, hopefully they'll notice the lack of ridership....... The only reason the RR i'm volunteering on is lacking our Mikado is that it's out for a complete overhaul, and should have her out on the rails again come the end of the year with no forcast of retirement anytime soon. We can only hope they realize their mistake.
Hi A&TC442! Welcome to Trainboard Tell us a little about your Mike. The YW has a 1915 Baldwin Mike that I have been working with for about 20 years now. If you have ever watched the movie, "Emperor of The North" that's the locomotive that was featured all through the storyline. Do you have any photos of your Mike?
