Hi, Will the "guts" from any ionizer work in making a "grass master", to make the grass material stand up. Princess Auto has a travel ionizer clearing for $7... takes a 9 volt battery. Or am I way off on this Thanks Edward
Over 30 views and no one has an idea if this would work for a "Grassinator"? I didn't think it possible to stump the Trainboard Well for 7 bucks I'll risk it. Cheers Edward
I guess that would be my idea. I did see your post for the last 24 hours but I was stumped and didn't have any information to offer. OTOH, I sure would like for you to post the results of your experiment. Also, glad you hung in there and didn't give up on a reply.
Edward, I read your post and, though I know the theory of scenery ionization, having never seen an ionizer, let alone used one, I felt it better to not clutter your thread, as I just did.........:tb-ooh: P.S. Well it is a no go. Everything is on a circuit board, 3" x 4", all kinds of diodes & capacitors. Oh well, I'm only out a few bucks.
I'm not about to spend a lot of money for those grass ionizing gadgets but, wanted realistic looking grass. So, for a few bucks I got the plastic squeeze bottle for static grass from Noch. I found that if I shake it a bit and give a good squeeze on to the glued area, the grass stands up just fine. Every couple of squeezes I shake it a little and it seems to hold the static charge just fine. I'll usually let the glue dry (I use Noch Glue For Grass) and then just blow away the excess and surrounding areas with a squeeze bulb used for cleaning camera lenses or as a solder sucker.
I am not sure of the ionizer but I built this one, http://www.009.cd2.com/flyswat.htm Very cheap yet effective.
I'll either go the electric fly swatter, if I can find one locally, or order the parts from Electronic Goldmine to build.... maybe give the squeeze bottle a try. Thanks for the input guys Edward
They can usually be found at Harbor Freight in the $3-4 range. There is also a variation that uses a metal salt shaker instead of the strainer, but I'm having a devil of a time finding one without going to a restaurant supply. Mike

Lots of voltage, but very little current flow. Ever grabbed hold of a leaky spark plug wire? Similar unpleasant jolt, but not as strong. MOST people quickly learn which end of the handle to grab hold of!:tb-rolleyes:

What is the best glue for static grass? Other than the "special" stuff Noch sells. Will anything "off the shelf" work? Or does the moisture in the glue eliminate the static?
I've used regular glue before but for the couple of extra dollars I'm very partial to the Noch Grass Slime: Product Page It holds the grass upright better than glue in my opinion and it dries dead flat... no shine.
