The Sneak-peek Kato SD40-2's are here as of today. The real things shipped on container as of last Friday so it's 5 weeks and counting down (+/-) till they arrive from the distributors. Waa HOOOOO. Oh I'm happy as they are purdy.
Hey lash, so what are you trying to say?? (kidding) I have a couple of these on reserve (BN of course). I wonder when they will hit?? Wig-Wag would 5 weeks be consistant with all retailers you think?
Dangit, now I'm tempted to order a single... (only beacuse I kitbashed the other number 2 years ago...)
Sorry - was just having some fun just in case anyone took me too seriously. Seems crazy that there are no photos of this thing but they are shipping. I'm curious how updated this unit will be. Either way I'm in for two.
Consistent? Different distributors in different locations. Different dealers in different locations. The net result is that there will be variables of 10 days - to 3 weeks plus. Lashedup: "In all seriousness" find me an additional 14 hours a day. Oh, and blood pressure less that 225/132.
AWEsome! Note the MU hoses (molded?) on the plow! Plated-over class lites & ditch lites put it past my era, which makes it easier to pass on.. The correct anticlimber too? Sure looks good!
When my ship comes in and I've more cash than I know what to do with I am going to get a N-scale quality Kato like SD40-2 tooled up and just manufacture this, nothing else, no old U25's or Trainmasters. No Baldwins or tunnel motors. Don't need a mogel or 2-8-2 ... No Sir just the SD40-2. I would release different roads 3 times a year and would reissue & rotate an road numbers every 2 yrs of models previously released. I would issue 1 to 4 numbers depending on how many SD40-2's the proto road had. I think I would turn a profit quicker than a MP-15 and have a pretty stable market for a couple of decades. The only other thing I would manufacture would be various cabooses to go with the SD40-2. While others manufactures are working on SD38, SD45-2's, Alco PA's, or banging their heads on the wall listening to the constant request for the GP38-2 which (to all but the serious hobbyist) ain't that different looking than the generic GP38 verision. I will be quarterly releasing 5 or so SD40-2's. A loco that appeals to all types of model railroaders from casual to serious and the operation era still stands today. I will make sure to focus heavy on everything but BN,SF, UP, & the Canada lines. I wouldn't want to interfere with Kato's market. That isn't to say I wouldn't issue a UP or CN but they would come way after the 3rd issue of PC or SCL. My company name will say it all "N Scale SD40-2 Locomotives" When the demand peaked and I recovered my cost I would sell the tooling to someone still trying to make a U36-C about 20 yrs from now, but I wouldn't have the heart to tell that manufacturer instead of wasting time on a nice C-C u-boat most of which went from the purhcaser to the scrap pile very unlike the SD40-2 or any second generation EMD that saw or still see a lot of real work into the new Century they should have focused on a SD40-2 but I will thank them for not building one instead I will praise the latest effort of their M420R and tell them they made the right choice in producing that much in demand model I am sure they will receive many $$$ rewards for making it, It is incredible that this series locomotive gets such little interest from the manufactures. Granted I am happy that IM is making the FP-7. But man... what in the hell is the deal with the SD40 series and the manufactures????? By the way its a nice looking locomotive. All I can say is look at those Deck Mount Operational Ditch Lights , first I've seen in Nscale. Modeling modern era BC Rail is difficult as almost all units have 2 sets of ditch lights. Now time to figure out a way of using those ditch lights on Kato C44-9, C30-7, Atlas B36-7, and Dash8-40b. DC
225/132? George! Start taking care of yourself. Life's only fun when you're alive to experience it. The SD40-2 is perhaps the only reason I'd shift time eras.
I was curious about the handrails too. Haven't been able to find a good enough photo to see if it's prototypical or not but I bet it is. Maybe a case of Kato trying to get too cute there but maybe it will look OK. I'll have to check pics from my own stash when I get home.
Perhaps it was the heat from the photoflood lamps? I notice it is only on the lead units, closest to the lighting.
yes and no ! the SD40-2 they have ordered for CN have the bell on the cab and the lights on the nose, the engines which were gone from BN to IC and then to CN have the lights on the cab... those Kato CN engines have the light on the right place...
yes, only on the lead unit because the second BN unit is a SD45 and the second CN unit is a SD40-2 from the first run...
