This is a picture of a N scale Model Power FP7. Has anyone actually ever seen one of these in this paint? I would love to have one.
The paint scheme is almost right - I don't think the yellow extended down over the fuel tank "skirt". Otherwise not too bad. The first thing I would do is replace the Rapido couplers with Red Caboose couplers. A 5-chime Nathan horn would be correct, but no one is currently making one. I looked at one of these at a hobby shop in Grand Rapids a couple months ago - I should probably get one of these.
Tim, did they actually have that one in that paint? If so I really want one for my collection. If you can let me know how to get a hold of them I would appreciate it.
Yeah, the FP7 originally started out in the tri color passenger scheme, and were repainted into that scheme later on along with the F7s. One or two of them were also painted in the experimental "zebra" scheme that was black with a stripped nose.
Looks like the yellow does extend down the skirt... and even onto the fuel tank. That's certainly different from most paint schemes.
I saw that the yellow on the skirt would appear as the locomotives aged - mostly due perhaps to fuel spillage??? Then again I was told that the C&O painted blue first, then yellow???
I got to thinking about it, and the F7's I saw in this paint scheme (and I was a little kid then) might not have had the skirt when i saw them. I think this paint scheme was started in 1957...
Well, I got my MP FP7 today. Below is a picture shown on my hobby shop website and also on the Model Power website. But this is what I actually got. Funny how that paint changed. Once again, has anyone here seen the Model Power FP7 in the first paint scheme. That is the one I am looking for!!!
C&O FP7's I know this is an old post but thought I would chime in since I am getting back iinto N Scale after a few years of 3 rail O Scale. Oldrk...I got my C&O FP7 a few weeks ago and it was suppose to have been in the "Futura" paint scheme like the one you ordered, and mine as well was the same as you recieved...the Tri-Color scheme. I also just got an email notification from Hobbylinc that this model of the FP7 in the Futura scheme was in stock, and it even had a picture of one as well in the Futura scheme. I have not contacted them yet to see "if" this is actually the one I am looking for as well. The MP FP7 is a sharp loco to say the least, and a good runner as well, good low speed to boot, and heavy. I even found it interesting that they had the yellow on top of the nose moved back as was actually done to prevent glare. Wrap the yellow stripe and the gray around the back, a weatherization hood on the rear fan, a five chime horn and she would be setting pretty. I plan to have several more FP7's in the Tri-Color scheme but like you would love to have a few in the Futura scheme as well. Let us know if you find anything out. Thanks! Dave Gilliland
Dave,I went to the Hobbylinc site and saw where it was advertising it and had a Walthers #. I went to the Walthers site and put in that number and sure enough it had a picture of the one you and I got. Not the one you and I want. Can you paste in the email you got form Hobbylinc? I am curious about this. Would love to add it to my collection but am afraid of getting the same thing again. Welcome to Trainboard my neighbor to the east. And who couldnt stand a few more of these running around!
Oldrk...The email had a pic of the model we both want, I did not try to post it, but the rest of the email is as follows. I had left a request with Hobbylinc to let me know when they had them in stock. Notice it says "dark blue, yellow"...well that is how I ordered my last one and the invoice that came with it stated the same thing as well...dark blue/yellow! The only thing I know to do is to contact them direct and specify exactly what I am looking for. I want some more FP7's in the Tri-color scheme but this would be a great Addition to have a few of these too. Finally got a reply from Model Power concerning the Futura paint scheme FP7...this is what I got from them... "The photo is of a per production loco which we never made. We went with the Tri-color paint scheme instead." Wow...OK...then why did they NEVER change the photo then! I am going to reply back to them and inform them that if they actually produced this model in the futura scheme there would be a bunck of folks that would buy them. Not gonna hold my breath though. Just thought I'd let you know. Now if it were possible to get as many folks as possible to email them that they want this paint scheme then maybe they would consider it but then again it would take a lot of folks to do so. Dave
oldrk the actual site addy is mantua@modelpower.com but the email reply I got back was from this addy, and it was also the one I sent my question to as well... nscale@modelpower.com . I am sending them another response to their reply so we shall see where that gets us. Dave PS oldrk I am going to try to forward a copy of everything in as far as correspondance goes that I have sent/recieved.
Well I suggested it to them again, that Michael fella replied that he would mention it to the other tech guy...i'll put stock into that ha ha! Dave
Model Power says they never had the paint scheme shown on most web sites? I thought I saw one in that scheme last spring or summer at a hobby shop in Grand Rapids... I must have imagined it...
