Hello everyone. As you can tell by the post count, I am pretty new to the site. I am pretty new to model railroading and currently working on my first real layout. I started with a 36" x 80" hollow core door and some blue foam. After some reading on the site I got started and below are the progress pictures. The track is Bachman EZ track covered in ballast. I have also started gathering some Lehigh Valley stock.
Wow! Amazing. For a first try, it is obvious that you have done some great planning and read-up on techniques. Wow! Keep up the great work! I would LOVE to see more as your work progresses. Wow!
Thanks alot. I tried to do alot of reading on the web before diving in. Many of the builders on this site along with the pictures they post have given me something to shoot for. I can tell you for certain that the help of a good local hobby store seems to make all the difference in the world. Without the help of them I would be lost.
Good stuff, Vic, you realise that now you are hooked and that you will quickly degenerate into a train crazed foamer like the rest of us on trainboard, LOL. It's good to start of with something small that gives you results in a relitively short time. You will learn lots and sharpen your layout building skills, because I am sure that this will be your first layout and not your last. Enjoy your hobby, you are off to a great start.
Not too shabby......that weathering job is nice. I also like what you're doing, scenery-wise.:thumbs_up:
Nice! Good choice of season - fall's the best. I made a few Woodland Scenics trees a few weeks ago for my layout - I'm trying to figure out the best way to tone down the bright red ones - maybe someone has some suggestions. I think I'll try dry brushing or air brushing a little green on some of the "leaves" to see if that helps.
Yes it's plain to see that you've done your homework. From the looks of things so far I wouldn't have said that was your first. Looks Great. Heep up the great work. I'm anxious to see the progression.:tb-cool:
Thanks for the warm words guys. I just got married and we currently live in a 2 bedroom apartment. Lucky me, the wife lets me use the spare room for the weight room / hobby room. After alot of reading I went with the door slap method so I can move it without much trouble. After we get a 3 bedroom I will add on another door and expand. As for the gentleman with the autumn trees. I worked on dulling my trees with a little thinned down Tamiya olive green through an airbrush. This is a similiar method that I read about in a few books. I will keep this post updated as I move forward. I also look forward to reading about all of your projects.
I just wanted to stop in and update with a few pictures of my progress. Home life has been crazy over the past month and modeling progress has been slower than expected. I am hoping to get started on a scratch built fence for the farm along with some bush and tree work.
A couple pictures of the Branchline barn kit. These are the first laser cut wood kits I have tried and I love the way they go together, not to mention the realistic look.
really looking good. i am like you i love the laser cut wood kits. looks so much better than plastic. over the next year, i am going to convert all of my plastic over to wood.
