On the History channel tonight there's a show called "It's Harder in Alaska" and tonight's show will have the Alaska RR in it. It's on here in the US Central time zone at 9:00PM, but there's several re-runs over the next few days if you check your guide. A public service message brought to you in an effort to fuel your railroading habit.
THX...I'd set my mental reminder days ago, but, thanks to various distractions including my favorite beverage, I had forgotten it until reading your post....Oh Well, the failings of an aging brain.
I'm recording the show, since I have to work tonight (I can watch it when I get off work in the AM). No telling me how it ends now....................... :nono:
I thought it was pretty good. I could do without the morning-DJ-football-announcer style of delivery, but the show was called "Tougher in Alaska" so I guess it wasn't that out of character. To me, it's kind of like getting poked on the sternum repeatedly, but the guy was affable enough besides. I like that he wasn't afraid to pitch in and help. The scenery, the work, the tasks at hand, and the people involved were compelling enough without adding a bunch of production.
It's sound a lot like "Ice Road Truckers", "Ax Men" & "Dangerous Catch". I know a guy that works at the fish plant in "Dangerous Catch". He has even been out on the featured boat. He says it is a lot of Hollywood. While it is dangerous work there's no captain that would endanger his ship and crew as they showed. It sounds like it is worth looking into though. Thanks for the notice and the revues.
Watched it last night. Good show even if the announcer was a bit cheezy. The SD70's were the hit of the show. The part showing the railcars loading on the barge was interesting too.
Was able to catch part of it last night. That which I saw was very well done. For the most part I was able to tune-out the announcer. He added only a little.
I was just too beat to watch it yesterday so I recorded it on the DVR. Hopefully I will have some free time to watch it over the weekend.
I watched it this afternoon I enjoyed it, although I don't watch the other shows that you have listed I have found shows that are produced by the same channel use the same old recipe methods and have the same dialog and if you close your eyes you wouldn't know if you were watching Cranky Paul Sr. of Orange County Choppers or Cranky deceased Boyd Coddington?
If it was really that dangerous the production company wouldn't be able to get insurance in order to film it. Plus I think farming is the most dangerous profession. (ie, arm ripped off by PTO, hand ripped off by grain auger, sucked into hay bailer, crushed under tractor, just to name a few hazards) Plus, when they are in an accident they are generally all alone. Just not as sexy or exciting as fishing in the Bearing Sea though. Show was still cool though. Did like the scenery and watching operations.
