Hi I use RRTrack v 4.02 to set up my Christmas O scale world (This year it'll be a village that takes up 1/2 or living room ~ 130 sq ft. Great stuff allows for me to play and compile what I'll need. Easy to use, so the kids play too. BUT for n scale it seems to be a bit lacking. Libraries are missing a few pieces and there are so many trac brands. I'd like to get everything from 1 software company and support a good one, but is there anything else out there that folks like? Thanks
I have used 3rdPlanit (http://www.trackplanning.com/). I have designed a basement size layout and in the middle of construction. Some keys as far as I am concern include accuracy of turnout size and alignments plus the ability to print out the layout EXACTLY 1/1 scale to use as a template. These are key to any software that is to be used to create a layout. There are extensive track libraries for many track brands. It is pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. Additionally, there is a 3D capability so you can get a good idea of what the layout will look like from different perspectives. Some people even use this software for running trains to check stuff out, but that was not something I was interested in spending time doing. Good luck
Layout Design Discussion > Is there good design software out there? Those two prior mentioned software titles are good one. Any Rail running about $59 and 3Drail.runs $99 Xtracad ; Free just as good and about the same learning curve. And there is also Atlas rite track 8 ; Try them out and see for yourself. All have free trials http://www.xtrkcad.org/Wikka/HomePage Atlas http://forum.atlasrr.com/ register for the forums and (goto) forums and N Scale & HO have the link posted for D/L
