dear gentlemen, i want to thank you all for the help that i recieved from all of you when i first joined. it was such a great help. i recommend anyone that wants to learn , they should do it here. it has been several weeks since my last visit. let me catch you up. my wife deciced that she couldn't take my being so sick, she packed up and moved. then my 18 y.o. daughter moved 3 hrs away (first time out of the house and away from dad). march 2nd i came home from errands and found my mom had suffered a stroke. three days later she was gone. since the funeral i have been busy trying to settle all of her business. in mid april i had a relapse of sorts but have bounced back well. the reason i am telling you this, is because i must sell everything i have accumulated in the hobby. after paying for everything, i am broke. i tried to post an ad w/pictures but it would not go through. if someone would please give me a few pointers i would appreciate it. again thanks guys.

    Hey,
Sorry to hear your problems. Take it from someone who's been in your boat(except Mom), don't give up all of the hobby. If you have to sell your stuff,do it. Just don't give up places like this. This place is like therapy. You'll be able to stay involved with what's going on & use it in the future. You'll keep your friends, too. It may not look like it now,but you will.
I was dead once, paralized twice,& almost dead 2 more times. In a wheelchair for over a year, then a walker. I now have braces on my legs to walk, but without them, the walker is still needed. Did I mention my sometimes violent hand tremors ? I never gave up hope & I even started some modelling again. You will too.

I'm so sorry to hear the bad news. You aren't alone as there are a few of us on the same Titanic. In my visits to discuss things over with the Great Chief, I will remember you and petition the assistance of the Almighty.

Listen to Mike AKA Secret Weapon. I'm not here to tell my story but my model railroad has been the one constant in my life.

If you need to sell your equipment inorder to raise income just to survive, then let us help you.

I wish you and yours complete healing in the difficult time in your life. With time, the wounds and hurt will heal. As stated if you need to, sell your items but stay connected as needed to stay in the hobby. If you have to sell your collection, don't sweat it too much...first of all it is just stuff, it can be replaced later during a better time. I had a decent collection and sold almost all of it off in early 2007 to pay bills and fund my first two semesters in school. Now I have returned to the hobby with targeted purchases to allow me to dabble in the hobby. So I can relate to the bummer of selling your collection, but as long as it for a good cause, it is bearable and like I said, it is only stuff and can be replaced in better times.

I applaud your dedication to responsibilty and doing what has to be done.
    Please do keep in touch.

Mike, SecretWeapon, made a great point. Just because you have to leave the hobby because of a little curve ball in your life, you have friends here. Like Mike, I have went through some hard times, a divorce, injury, and can say that alot of times it was having and talking to my friends here that got me through some tough times. We'll miss you when your gone, but hopifully you'll at least stick around here for some support if you need it. :)

You do indeed have friends here and if there is anything I can do to help you out let me know. I was gone from here for several years due to injury, job, and school. Believe me I regret not making the time to be here with my friends. Stick around and enjoy the hobby from the arm chair for a while. Things WILL get better for you!

    Best,
    John

    Onegreenturtle,

I wish to convey all our best wishes (from my wife and myself) for improved times in the future. I am sorry that you are having to sacrifice your collection to pay your bills, but I wouldn't view it as an ending. Once times improve for you you can jump back into the hobby if you'd like, or even change focus or era or scale or whatever.

I am sorry for the loss of your mom, too, and for your rapid change in family situation. Take care and remember your friends here on this board when you're feeling lonely.

    Adam

When my first wife and I divorced, I had model railroading as a therapy to keep my mind occupied, otherwise I would have been a mental basket case.

Don't completely give up on the hobby, or on us- a lot of us have gone through storms in our lives, and know a little bit about what you're going through.

I'll definitely put in a good word for you to the Man Upstairs.

May you have the peace that transcends all understanding. It seems to be the best thing we can hope for when things are down. With 6 sons and daughters I have come to realize they are, well boomerangs is the word that comes to mind. Be blessed!

As stated before by so many just keep the faith. Glad to hear you are keeping a few trains. I went dormant for a few years. Then got back in after some bad times went by. Now I actually have started to get back into collecting again. Look forward to more posts in the near future. Here is a good place to be.*S*
