CNO&TP = Cincinati, New Orleans & Texas Pacific Railroad. The line is owned by the city of Cincinati and is leased to NS. You will notice this type of sublettering on many of the former Southern Railway units standing for all the railroads that were absorbed under the Southern Railway flag. Hope this helps.
Units ordered by NS up to around 1990 were still given sublettering for the member road (NW, SOU, or the various SOU subsidiaries - but did any subsidiaries get new power after 1982?). Only units new or rebuilt after then have NS sublettering.
and thanks guys, that make sense. like I have said before I am new to all of this so there is probably still alot that have to learn and almost infinite opportunities for me to display my lack of knowledge. But hey, the trans-continental wasn't built in a day so I guess its ok to take time to learn.
