Derby day began with a cloudy, rainy morning, but the rain and clouds would soon cut out. I met nsfan14 and mikado at HK tower in Anchorage, KY to catch RJ Corman's derby train and the CSX governor's special. A signal maintainer from CSX and a road foreman from RJC beat us there, but were very nice guys to spend a morning with. After catching the trains at HK we headed for FX tower in Louisville to catch the governor's special there. Met a lot of great folks out there and had a great time. I had to leave early to make all my derby parties, but we'll be back at it later this morning. Mikado and nsfan14 getting in all kinds of trouble!
Interesting to see the CN car. Must have cost a few dollars to get it down there. Those aboard probably could afford the outing. Where did that train originate? Boxcab E50
The CN car was on R.J. Corman's train, originating in Lexington, KY. I'm not sure it costs much to be on the train, other than knowing the right people or doing enough business with Mr. Corman's company!
Great catch Old Reliable!!!!! FINALLY we can see what NS really is about. Bet the return home will be a nice catch too.
The F units look kinda funny with ditch lights but the NS units are still beutiful. While not near the same NS as it was when the steam program was around it is still nice to see something like this. Great shots!!!
My dad and I met up with Nathan(Old Reliable) at HK Tower on Derby day and hung out for awhile with a CSXT Signal maintainer and a RJ Corman road forman. It sure was a good idea for NS to carry on the SOUTHERN tuxedo black/gold/white tradition with this special. Now I wouldn't mind it being SR green but this is okay too. Flash: Better make this one a Derby edition.
I just realized what looks wrong with the Fs. It's not the ditch lights, not to me. I was thinking, "The nose looks very... plain. And it's not just that they're single-headlight units and I'm more used to dual headlights." It's the plated-over nose door.
