On The NS mainline just south of Miamisburg, OH around 03/29/08. ... and a couple more from around town...
Last time I saw a faded red like that, it was on an F-unit... also a warbonnet. Aging like a fine wine, or just aging? :tb-confused:
GE had some terrrible terrible paint when those were brought out. there are H2s just as bad with the fading. EMD's paint mix never seems to fade like that be it the 75s, the GP60ms or the 70MACs.
There's a whole story behind those awful GE / BNSF paint jobs; GE subcontracted it out and the subcontracting company used the wrong paint. At the end of the deal, when the BNSF "peaches" as they were nicknamed, came pouring back for warranty repaints, the truth came out and the subcontractor went bankrupt. GE had to eat the repaints. I don't think they've done anything like that since. They'd rather send stuff out in primer.
Did the sam ething happen to the Warbonnets? Why do they fade so terribly on GE's but look generally still in good shape on EMD?
ahh gotta love a warbonnet dash-9 with a HII air-conditioner. this seems to be on many red/silver WB's that I almost don't see it anymore LOL see #732 and #880 (b-40-8 I believe) in OP
The lead unit on the first unit grain train through Rainier las Sunday was BNSF 702 in "Warbonnet" paint. Looked a bit scruffy but still not too faded.
