Sorry if this is not the appropriate forum, was not sure where to place it. I am looking to buy some 22 gauge stranded wire and was wondering where would be a good place "around town" to pick some up. I don't have a LHS or a RadioShack nearby. Is all stranded 22 gauge the wire the same or is there something special I need to look for? I am going to be using it to make the "solderless" unijoiner feeders:

Not sure of the gauge but I would think a cheap source of stranded wire would be printer cables depending on how long you need the wires to be. Also the printer cable would be different colours for each wire so you could set up a colour code for different tracks or area's.

Why 22 gauge wire? That is pretty small. Do you have to have 22 gauge or will 18 which is larger work? 22 gauge is also kind of delicate too. Check with an electrical supply/hardware store they might have what you need or can order it for you.

Yes, wire is wire. You could try Wal-mart or a local hardware store. If you can't find spools of single stranded wire, dual conductor 22 gauge is commonly available as "speaker wire". This will have two leads of wire stuck together, which will probably work well for your application. If you need separate runs of single wire, simply split the insulation between the wires a 1/2" or so with a knife and pull the two wires apart.

I am making the solderless unijoiners. 22 gauge is what the article says to use. I don't have a 22 gauge fetish or anything like that LOL

Thanks guys, I picked up some at Walmart.

Fwiw, I use solderless unijoiners on my unitrack, and have found the wire in phone cable works perfectly. Had some laying around and tried it awhile back.

Phone cable is very cheap, and since there is four wires in each cable, you get plenty of wire. Just strip the outer sheath out to expose the individual wires, and your set.
