Great pic! Thanks for posting that one. That's a good looking one for sure. I need one in Frisco just like that ------------------ Ship It On The FRISCO! | IAMOKA.com
how do you weather(sp?) it like that? that looks sweet. i could only imagine what my UP would look weathered like that. it's barely new tho so i don't know about that yet.
Hi George, For the top of the locomotive and cooling fans and grilles I use floquil oily black. Do not shake the bottle, apply the oily paint with a rather big brush over the whole top side of the locomotive and wipe it immediately off with a piece of cloth. redo the same process until you are happy of the look of your loco. Spray the painted loco with a dull or satin varnish prior to weathering with chalks. Make some powder out of chalk sticks(earth colors) and apply them with a stiff brush over the loco and wipe them over the loco with a cloth. If you want to give some accents then you can use for example a chalk stick with a rusty color and go over some details as bolts. I prefer to do this before the varnish is completely dry. You have not to be afraid to overdo it, because when you varnish again most of the heavy weather effect will disappear. if you think it's not enough, just start again with your chalks. When I go to shows with the engine I rub the tank of the loco with some diesel gasoil so the smell is right as well!!!!! ------------------ Paul Van Herwegen Rappannahock Terminal Railway
Where did you get the decals for your road? Were they custom made, or do you have an Alps printer? They look superb ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery Alan's European Gallery Alan's British Steam Gallery
Alan, You are right, these decals are fanthastic! These are made by Railgraphics in Ill.They are strong, razor sharp and easy to work with. I use these decals in G and HO scale and I must say that they are much better than whatever decals on the market. In fact this guy makes the decals for OMI. ------------------ Paul Van Herwegen Rappannahock Terminal Railway
man! this is a bummer! i went to a local train store and was looking at the kadee couplers, right? well little did i know that you had to do a little modifying of the engine to install those particular couplers. i was looking at the 837 couplers as opposed to the 831. i hope/think i have the correct couplers numbers. anyway, the 837 (assuming that's the correct number) was the more "prototypical" look so of course i want those. but i had to hack off so and so parts of the under body coupler area and well needless to say i'm not quite ready to do that to my engine yet. is it hard to install those things or no? thanks
George, i use the #787 coupler, of course this coupler is fixed and does not rotate. But this is no trouble on aristo's wide angle switches and I also use curves of 20'. other thing, you can just fix it on without any adaptations. ------------------ Paul Van Herwegen Rappannahock Terminal Railway
