Problem ordering Kato GG-1 - SOLVED! On Thursday night, I tried to pre-order a Kato GG-1 from 4 N Scale's web site. There was a problem with the order, it kept saying that there was nothing in my cart, but it showed a total price and said an email would confirm my order. No email arrived. Two emails have gone unanswered, but more troubling is that when I phoned the number listed on their web site, I got instead a private residence, who claim no knowledge of 4 N Scale. I triple checked the phone number to make sure that I was dialing correctly. I was. So.... anyone else have a problem with 4 N Scale? And what on-line vendor have you successfully pre-ordered a Kato GG-1 from? (I'd love to buy locally, but there are no LHS's in this area any more.:bear-sad:
Have you ordered from 4NScale before? I have not herd of them before.. unless someone else can vouch for them.. I'd be extra cautious. Hope you did not give any credit info.
4NScale is the old Rio Grande Hobbies. I've used them (a while ago) and was happy, and others have recommended them. They're legit. Regards Ed
Here is a note on their web site: Our Phone # has changed to (678) 880-7097. Did you use this number? The number listings on the 'normal' place you'd look have not been updated. Hope this helps.
I've ordered from them before with no trouble. There phone number has changed recently, so make you sure you are calling the most recent number((678) 880-7097). I tried it and got the recording for Rio Grande Hobbies, which is the same outfit.
Rio Grande Hobbies was located in Kentucky until the fall of 2006 when it was sold and moved to the Atlanta area. The new (Atlanta) owners honored a reserve that I had placed with the previous owner, which was delivered in early 2007. There was a minor mix up with the credit card payment due to their getting set up, but it was resolved quickly and amicably. I have not had any dealings with them since so can offer no recent experience.
Kato N GG1 The Kato GG1 is up for Pre-Order at www.TopHobbyTrains.com. The new MAP pricing mandated by Kato is giving all the on line guys fits to retrofit their web checkout.
My wife is from the area just south of their new Georgia location, I hit their brick n mortar, (actually is Brick,) store every time I am down there. They are family run and probably one of the friendliest shop owners I have met, and that is why I keep coming back, they seem to really enjoy the business and I believe have hired a few people to keep up with demand... MY Morning Daylight order went through them, prompt email and tracking numbers provided, supposed to arrive in the next 48 hours...
4NScale is a etailer that I use on occasion over the last 4 years and I have found them to be very good. Just make sure you logged into your account so that everything goes through properly. Their phone number has changed and it's clearly stated in the posts above and on their website. Give Wayne a call he'll see you right.
Thanks to all who replied to my original post. I had ordered from 4 N Scale before, so I knew they were a legitimate business; and I did finally get an email response today to my original email to them last Friday. Apparently, my browser was loading a cached version of the 'contact us' page of their web site that had an old no longer valid phone number. Calling the number in the email connected me to 4 N Scale. Clearing the cache and cookies and reaccessing the web site shows the new, correct phone number as well as some other updates on the site. (Not exactly sure how all this works out in cyberspace, but all is now well.)
Sadly, this does not have a happy ending. I sent another email once I knew Kato was shipping the units. I got one email reply from 4NScale indicating that my order would be shipped the following Monday. Two weeks went by, I sent three more emails and made two phone calls. No answers and no GG-1. I sent a letter indicating that I was canceling the order and placed an order with woo woo woo woo woo woo. The GG-1 arrived today. I tried.
