I just finished kit bashing this tender for a Bachmann 2-8-0. The SP called these 70-C-10 tenders "Clear View" because the fuel bunker was quite narrow and the crew could see around it better for reverse moves.
Here is the other side of the tender. Now I have to get busy working on the locomotive end to go with it.
Thanks. Yes, it is based on the Model Power tender. I had some spare Kato passenger trucks left over from a de-skirted Santa Fe car. I had removed the skirts and found the top half the truck frame not there so got different trucks from Kato for that. On the old trucks, I took the brass inner side frames out, cut them up and pieced them together to fit in the MP tender trucks with the Kato wheels. It now has all wheel pickup.
I finally finished my F45 project. 2 months of work, innumerable detail parts so tiny you almost need magnification to see them, has finally ome to fruition!
SNFF 2008 01 25 Hi, all, I finally finished weathering (and renumbering) four N scale LifeLike Southern Pacific Black Widow SD7s. As many of you know, these locos do not come apart as easily as the pop-off-the-shell manner that most Atlas and Kato locos do. So that was fun figuring it out... thx to Andre Kritzinger's web site (hes' in South Africa)... or I'd never figure it out: LifeLike SD7&SD9 Thx, Andre. Here's some photos of my project:
Part 3: ========= Yes, I know, these SP DF-118 class SD7's should have the barrel can headlights and steam generators..... if I can ever find more of the discontinued Sunrise Enterprises parts to outfit these locos, I will. Have a good weekend, all!
I sure like those Black Widows! I renumber mine, too. I am getting ready for a layout open house tomorrow for the SAMRA Train Show here in San Antonio. Here is the East Yard switcher line up: SD7/F3B/SD7.
It is just styrene shapes. The stack is a tube and the short "vent' cap is just a small part of a rod. I take the tube and ream out the top to make the sides look thin. As I recall, I did have a picture of this engine, probably as delivered paint. I don't remember about the other SD7, but I haven't modified that one yet. Those stock Atlas horns that are not on the top of the cab are not correct, I don't think. OTOH, the units were probably delivered to Espee that way.
Here are pictures of all the motive power and rolling stock of the defunct and diminuitive Painter Creek and Myersville Railway. The PC&M Ry was my HOn30 layout inspired by Frary & Hayden's Carrabasset and Dead River. The PC&M was finally demolished in 1983 but the wheeled assets remain, tattered but whole. If I recall correctly, Minitrix made this little saddle tanker. It was a tough one to find, and it didn't really run very well at all. The box cars were made of styrene using scale drawings of real cars from one of the eastern narrow guage lines. The caboose / combine is design of my own based on various photos.
I just finished putting this all back together again. Had to make about 20 circuits around the test loop pulling 30 cars before it made it to the photo diorama. Wow it runs nice.
I haven't posted here in a few weeks, so I thought I would show off a little something... First an over-all shot from an angle I don't get to see with my own eyes: And then a truck I kit-bashed to look like my own.... Have a great weekend! ~Donovan in Dallas
