What are you using for ballast?? Looks almost dead on for the slag ballast the Grande used in the 60-80's.

    Thanks

Was under the layout for the past few weeks installing Tortoise motors, switch-8 decoders and a Soundtrax programing booster......

Very nice craftsmanship. Makes me realize that I need to do a better job of routing wiring - makes it a lot easier to do troubleshooting and repairs.

It's a work of art! Certainly it is compared to my electrical effort. Nice job.

But, I am staying above the layout this weekend. Here is my morning freight arriving from El Paso, Texas. I like watching it "snake" into the yard passing through the turnouts to get off the main. There are a lot of cement hoppers on the train today.

Here's a South River Modelworks Diesel Shop. I visited my brother yesterday who also has a layout that he just started. My nephew is building quite a few buildings for him.

He got a hold of the South River Diesel shop and has it in progress. He has the gantry, etc. to finish. He's turning out to be quite the craftsman.

Wow--so clean and tidy! My last layout wiring looked like a rat's nest gone terribly wrong.....

Well I finally got off my butt and got the garage and my bonus room cleaned up this weekend. I was able to start working on a small 2' by 3' layout that I am using to get back into N scale. I figure I can ramp up my skills again on a small "practice" diorama so I will be able to move on to a larger layout sooner. This will be a mountain scene. I freestyled it without any preplanning. I have been armchairing it long enough, I figured I just needed to just build something.

    what's with the flashing loco?
it's a dummy loco i detailed some 20 years ago, my first effort, and a crude attempt at a mars light using eighties electronics.
I put it into a crew change scene on the layout as an after thought, but little did I know at the time, that this location would be one of the prime photo spots on the layout.
