Well I finally started. Today I took my 2 boys to Lowes and we bought about half of the lumber for the second version of the Boise Sub. I figured I could not last any longer without a layout of some sort. Finished one 2 x 8 module and taught the boys how to use the miter saw. I have decided to do a double deck layout with a staging yard that slides on runners to either the top deck or bottom deck. I will model the town of Minerva (fictional) on the JSR on the upper deck. It will be 2 x 16 and have a main, passing siding, 3 track yard, brewery, lumber mill, co-op, wood chip facility and a small manufacturing facility. The lower deck will also be 2 x 16 and will be the main BN yard at Jamestown on the Boise Sub. It will have a main and passing siding, 2 A/D tracks and 8 yard tracks. I will have a flower mill, freight transfer, team track, scrap yard, manufacture, food warehouse and produce warehouse. Both levels will be sceniced and have track laid to facilitate moving and will be incorporated into the 3rd version of the boise sub (pending basement with house) Staging will be built on runners with extendable legs to allow for it to be used for either level and to fold down for storage when not in use. I can fit 10 tracks with the shortest at 10 feet.

On my fictional short line I will be able to run all the scheduled trains from staging and onto the upper level. On the lower level I will be able to run about half of the scheduled trains and will concentrate on blocking the various way frieghts and turns that will run on the 3rd and hopefully last version of the Boise Sub.

I figure by April I will be up and running with all bench work done and track laid.

I look forward to folowing your progress! I too have had just about enough of not having a layout to run trains on. It's been almost 2 years for me, but I've started changing that too!

Seen your models before, so I can't wait to see a layout from you! :tb-cool:

But Boise Sub? When you're right on the doorstep of the most scenic railroad in Texas? :tb-tongue:

    Matt

Agree. El Paso would make a great theme for a layout both for running trains and operations. Plenty of UP, BNSF and Amtrak action and if you back dated a few years you could run many more fallen flags. (SP, ATSF, MP). However I have the BN bug and a lot of locomotives and rolling stock that would not fit in El Paso. Plus, I plan on retiring in a few years to the land of basements.

Tony, I was especially talking about the Paisano Pass area, UP (ex-SP) and Texas Pacifico (ex-ATSF), though how much ops. that'd offer, I don't know.

    Which land of basements?

By the way, how did ATSF access El Paso? From the north?
