Hi all, this is my first thread I hope not to do it wrong. My name is Ezequiel, I have 21 years and I live in Argentina. I am modeling US trains, in HO scale 100 code.
I have read and saw a lot of pictures of yards, before starting the layout and finally I got to one design that I think it can be very usefull. I am doing the layout in modules, in 2x4 feet.
I not have use many yards, in fact just one from a train association and I really enjoy it, that's why I wanted to start with the yard.
As I not have enough space, the layout it has 5 modules. but I thought one idea that let me in the future when I move to my house to expand the layout. Below I will put the pictures for the layout, and how I thought I will be able to expand it. For the design I use it the Atlas free soft.
I hope to hear good comments and criticals to my design, so I can modify it for better.
I am really happy to have the possibility of sharing information with people that enjoy this hobby as me, and persons that have the great oportunity of watch the real trains in live!
I apologize for my english, I know isn't good enough, but I hope that everyone can understand it!
    Bye to all, and thanks!

This looks like a sound plan and will let you build on without trouble. You'll have a nice engine facility, a little industry, and a small yard to begin with.

Will this give you enough operating opportunity or can you see yourself getting bored with what you can do in this space? That's an important question. Even though it is a nice start for a long-term development plan it may not bring enough pleasure before you have the room and time to add-on. You'll need to be sure you'll enjoy operating the limited variety of track you have here.

If you really like switching and making up trains (yard work), you may want to extend the yard tracks a bit and shorten up the engine facility side. Your yars tracks are quite short right now.

what are your track separations? They look a bit tight to m, but I might be looking at it little off.

Hi all, first of all thanks for your quickly answer. I will try to answer both question.
First, I am very happy(my mother doesn't,ha) with this length for the yard. Actually I do not have many trains to complete the yard body, but I do have many locomotives :), and the idea of adding modules appeared as an idea talking with friends. But if in the future I will can not do it, I won't be dissapointed because this is just my first layout. Also my friends are doing another modules that we are planning to put all together once per month so we can enjoy it together. But as you mentioned I would like to have more space for cars rather than engine service, but I didn't know or realize how to move the switchs or re-organize them to have more space, if someone has an idea it would be great!!!
Regarding track separation, thanks for asking about this topic, because I do have the question if they are too close. Actually I am cutting a part of the turn-out so they got close(I read it in the Engine Facility from Kalmbach), I do not know how to explain it and don't know the name of the parts for the turn-out, so I leave down a pictures of the two possibility for the track separation.
I hope that my answers where understandable, and very happy for being part of this forum. Good bye all!

That looks really good. you might look at some of your cross overs and see if they are completely necessary. Perhaps move some of the cross overs on the mainline farther int toward the middle so there is more space to get locos in and out of the ends.

Also with the main as it is, you won't be able to pull cars off the ends, not enough space after the cross overs for both cars and engines.

Hi all! Thanks again for your answers.
I have a new pictures(below) where I show the turn-out number, because I didn't understood the explanation of traingeekboy, so if you can now tell me again but telling me the turn-out number it will be easier :)
Another thing that I would like to explain(I hope to id well) is that in turn-out N° 4 the upper track at this moment is for run around, and below it's for arrival/departure track. But if I continue adding modules beginning turn-out N°4 I will need another arriva/departure track, so the run around would be the new arrival departure track, and the new run around would be on the yard lead with turnouts N° 9,10 and N°14,15 I know this last two turn-outs are not trailing-point but I put it like that, so the locomotives have an scape from the arrival/departure track.
I know this is a crazy idea, so I hope to hear comments from you, with new ideas, positive a negative consequences of doing this.
I also think that I have too many turn-outs, but maybe it's just my idea, what do you think?
Also I have remove 1 track in the yard body, to have more spaces between tracks.
Thank you, hope to hearing from you. Good bye

Hello, this time I was wondering which should I use to stick the cork road bed to the wood?
I will be updating my images here, with my modules.
    Good bye

You can use simple Elmer's White "Glue All" (not "School Glue") or the yellow Carpenter's Glue. In either case, the bond will be such that removal of the cork is not possible. The yellow glue is water proof when it dries and might be better for later ballasting when you wet the cork surface.

BTW, I did look at some of your photographs in RailImages. It appears that you are using a sheet of cork for the yards instead of individual cork roadbed pieces. I'm not sure how this might affect the answer about what type of glue to use.

Here is a link to zeque_06's pictures.

Hi, thanks for looking the pictures. Yes I'm using sheet of cork because here in Argentina is not easy to find the cork roadbed pieces, so I replace it with the sheet.
Also I used nail for roadbed, isn't this recommended? I thought that maybe if I need to change my design it would be easier to remove the track and cork.
I hear any kind of recommendations as this is my first time I start a layout.
    Good bye!
